Information Technology Services Management Work Study Assistant – Desktop Services

Position Summary:

  • The Information Technology Services Management Work Study Assistant-Desktop Services supports the Department by assisting students, staff, and faculty with their technology questions and problems, hardware and software support, and installation and configuration of equipment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Timely and courteous support for technical issues by phone and electronically, including, but not limited to:
    • Forgotten usernames and passwords.
    • Access to courses, University systems, and Computer Science servers
    • Email and hardware support
    • Assistance with basic software applications
    • Understanding of basic computer literacy
  • Accurate and detailed recording and reporting of help desk incidents and service requests
  • Timely escalation of high impact customer issues
  • On-site and remote support for faculty, staff, and classroom hardware and software, including, but not limited to:
    • Computer systems hardware and peripherals
    • Application installation and updates, including, operating systems, browsers, security and office productivity software, and curriculum related software
  • Physical installation and configuration of computer/phone/printer equipment, including initial installations and computing equipment moves
  • Hours for this position are up to 20 per week, M-F, scheduled between the hours of 8-5

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Must be a current student at Urbana and have Federal Work Study eligibility
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Organized with strong attention to detail
  • Ability to successfully multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Positive attitude and willingness to embrace change
  • Ability to work independently,  as well as within a team
  • Process oriented with strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and listening skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work with a diverse population and exhibit a high degree of confidentiality
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite
  • Able to lift up to 60 pounds (desktops, monitors, printers, scanners, ect.)
