Urbana University, a branch campus of Franklin University, located in Urbana, Ohio, is seeking a full-time Assistant Professor (12 month) within the Department of Education. The faculty is responsible for the coordination, planning, preparation, presentation, and evaluation of classroom instruction and related activities. The Assistant Professor is responsible for performing duties during the day, evening, or weekend as assigned. Planned visitation to partner schools to build relationships in our ongoing effort to attract new students to Urbana University is a job expectation. Additional related activities include holding office hours, advising students, participating in student visit days and orientation sessions, and serving on faculty committees. An instructor performs all other duties as directed by the College Dean and/or the Department Chair.

Qualifications:

  • Must have a BA/BS degree
  • Must have an M.Ed. degree or an M.S. or M.A. in the content area associated with a PK-12 teaching license that includes a minimum of 18 graduate hours in education.
  • Must have an AYA (grades 7-12) teaching license in Integrated English/LA
  • Must have 2-5 years of experience as a 7-12 English/LA teacher
  • Preference given to candidates with demonstrated experience with distance education
  • Preference given to candidates with experience and expertise in early reading and language development.
  • Preference given to candidates with earned doctorate (Ph.D./Ed.D)

We maintain strong relationships with K-12 partner schools that have directly resulted in exceptional practicum and student teaching experiences – and ultimately job placement for our education majors. We are seeking candidates that will add value to an already strong program.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate, plan, organize, and instruct courses during the day, evening, or weekend on any UU campus as assigned;
  • Willingness to remain current in the field and maintain teaching license;
  • Ensure that course outcomes are assessed in a manner that aligns to the nature of the outcome;
  • Ensure that course outcomes and assessments align to appropriate specialized program area standards;
  • Develop course syllabi utilizing approved course outcomes;
  • Provide students and the College of Education office with a copy of the syllabus used for each semester;
  • Learn and utilize the approved LMS as a part of the UU commitment to maintaining course consistency and strong student/instructor communication. This would include the completion of INST 501 and INST 604 as part of the onboarding process.
  • Required to teach a minimum of 30 semester hours per academic year unless a course reduction for other approved duties has been approved by the College Dean.
  • Maintain accurate and complete scholastic records, including attendance records, utilize the approved LMS, and maintain any other forms required by the registrar’s office;
  • Submit early warning and requested documents when appropriate as required by the UU focus on attracting, enrolling, retaining, and graduating students;
  • Conduct class evaluations and complete other college evaluations in accordance with college policy;
  • Ensure that assigned classes are held as scheduled;
  • Hold the final exam at the time scheduled in the University’s semester schedule, unless permission to deviate has been approved by the College Dean;
  • Participate in course, program, and curriculum review and development;
  • Serve on University and departmental committees;
  • Keep informed of current trends and new approaches to instruction through professional development activities;
  • Assist in the recruitment and retention of students;
  • Post and maintain office hours for student consultation;
  • Attend all University faculty meetings, the faculty advance, and other meetings when asked;
  • Be thoroughly familiar with the Faculty Handbook and the University Catalog;
  • Become thoroughly familiar with all University and departmental policies and procedures and comply with all of them;
  • Strive for the qualities delineated in the criteria for faculty evaluation used by the University.
