Urbana University Statement: Nov. 6 Shelter In Place Alert

On Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2018, Urbana University Office of Security received a report of a shot fired, just after 2 p.m.  The Urbana Police Department was immediately contacted and a “shelter in place” notification sent to all students, staff and faculty. An “all clear” notification was sent out within 20 minutes upon receiving clearance from the Urbana Police responding officers.

Urbana University takes care and caution when it comes to the safety of the student community. Security is provided by the Department of Campus Safety, which operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  As part of this approach, the OneCallNow mass notification communications systems utilized at Urbana University provided for phone, text and email notification to provide the University community with timely notification of emergency events that may present an immediate threat to the campus community.
