Urbana University, a division of Franklin University, currently has an opening for a full-time Director of Student Life. The Director of Student life will design and implement engaging co-curricular, non-credit programs and activities focused on building leadership capacity and a vibrant, inclusive student body. Through the development and enforcement of clear and transparent policies and risk management strategies, the director evaluates and establishes programs and events, recommends and implements changes and administers policy development. Further, the director maintains a visible presence on campus and is actively engaged in the creation and support of several large scale campus-wide events; serves as a role model and facilitator to student leaders; supports the development and maintenance of student-driven organizations; implements co-curricular leadership; promotes student and organizational excellence and best practices grounded in student development theory; and advocates on behalf of student leaders and organizations.

In addition, this position collaboratively develops the summer orientation and welcome weekend programs and teaches UNI 199 courses. Carrying out these responsibilities should be done in a manner that fosters a culture of inclusive excellence and active engagement.

The Director of Student Life has supervisory responsibilities for the Coordinator of Student Engagement, the residence life staff (Hall Directors and resident assistants) and the Student Health Services Nurse. These responsibilities will include staff selection, training, evaluation and weekly meetings. Finally, this position will oversee coordination and implementation of the Student Conduct process.

In order to carry out these duties effectively, the Director of Student Life lives in an on-campus apartment and the role requires someone who can work evening, late night, and weekend hours and has the ability to respond to and manage emergency situations.

We seek someone with a Master's degree and 3-5 years of progressive experience in residence life and/or student engagement along with knowledge of current trends in higher education. Prior student conduct adjudication or management experience is required. The selected individual must have knowledge and understanding of student development theory and practice and experience planning, organizing or implementing staff development and training programs for student life and student organizations. The Director of Student Life must also have the ability to sustain communication with diverse groups, anticipate problems, reconcile conflicts, and maintain a strong philosophical base for student engagement. A satisfactory motor vehicle report will also be required as the Director of Student Life must be able to drive 15-passenger vans, a minivan, or other university vehicles.
