Works Hours: During Library’s open hours (Mon.-Thurs., 8:00am-10:00pm; Fri., 8:00am- 4:30pm; Sun., 7:00pm-10:00pm)
Must be a current student position starts August 19
Student assistants in the library cover the reference desk during open hours and assist library staff with special library projects. Duties include assisting students, faculty, staff, and community patrons with research, the use of library materials, and technology including library software. Student assistants answer a variety of inquiries in-person, online, and via telephone.
Stellar customer service skills, willingness to learn new things, ability to work with interruptions, ability to adequately use various types of technology and to teach others to use it. Must be punctual and able to push and pull carts and lift boxes/books.
Duties and responsibilities
- Check books in and out using Sierra Circulation software
- Pull and shelve books using the Library of Congress Classification system
- Prepare materials for Priority Shipment (OhioLink and SearchOhio)
- Customer Service
- Greet all patrons that enter the library
- Help patrons use databases and the library catalog
- Answer reference questions online, in-person, and via telephone
- Assist patrons with printing, scanning, and faxing
- Other duties as assigned by the Public Services Staff or the Director
Student assistants will learn about libraries and library resources and research, working in a professional and often fast-paced environment, and customer services skills
