Urbana University Class of 2007 Valedictorian Honors

Valedictorian honors for the Urbana University Class of 2007 were shared by three students, Jessica Dennison of North Lewisburg, Lindsey Zimmerman of Tipp City, and Ashley Kirby of Arcanum.

The Class of 2007 received their diplomas at the 109th Commencement held May 12 in the Warren G. Grimes Center.

Miss Dennison is a graduate of Triad High School. She has completed a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education, graduating summa cum laude, which is highest honors.

She is a member of the Urbana University Academic Honor Society.

En route to completing her degree, Miss Dennison was a student teacher at Fairbanks Elementary School in Union County.

Miss Zimmerman is a 2003 graduate of Bethel High School. She completed a Bachelor of Science in Middle Childhood Education at Urbana University, also graduating with highest honors. She delivered the Valedictorian Address at Commencement.

A member of the Kappa Delta Pi education honor society, Miss Zimmerman was active in the campus community. She was a Student Ambassador and a member of the Varsity Women’s Soccer team and Judiciary Committee. The Dean’s List student received the award of Work Study Student of the Year. She was inducted into the Urbana University Academic Honor Society.

She also was named a recipient of a Teacher Education Award by the Department of Teacher Education in the University’s College of Education and Allied Professions, which presents the award to recognize students who excel in the tenets of professionalism, accountability, building community, and service.

Miss Zimmerman also worked part-time while attending Urbana, tutored several high school students, coached girls soccer at Bethel High School, and volunteered as a religious education teacher at her church.

Miss Kirby, a 2003 graduate of Arcanum High School, graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. She majored in Accounting and also completed a minor in Management.

An active member of the Urbana University community, Miss Kirby served as a Resident Assistant, Treasurer of the Student Government Association, and Vice President of the Student Business Association.

She was Editor of Knights Write, Urbana University student literature journal. She was President of Urbana University of Alpha Chi honor society and a member of Sigma Beta Delta, the business national honor society. Miss Kirby was Student Assistant in the University’s College of Business Administration, interned in the University’s Department of Finance, and was a tutor in the University’s Student Success Center.

She was inducted into the Urbana University Academic Honor Society and named to the National Dean’s List.
