State Senator Miller Scheduled to Speak at Student Center
Ohio Sen. Ray Miller (D-Columbus), the Minority Whip of the General Assembly, is scheduled to speak on Tuesday, Feb. 20, at 7 p.m. in the Moore Conference Room of the Urbana University Student Center.
Sen. Miller’s talk and a concert by the Dorthy White Quartet on Sunday, Feb. 25, at 3 p.m. in the Sarah Landess Room of the student center are two events scheduled by the University to celebrate Black History Month. The public is invited to both events. Admission is free.
The State Senator will reflect on the history and future of African Americans in government. He will highlight his own experience as the 13th African American to serve in the Legislature.
Sen. Miller has been a member of the Ohio Senate since 2003. His current term expires December 2010, and he is ineligible to run for another four-year term. He is Ranking Minority Member on the Energy and Public Utilities Committee and serves on the Education, Finance and Financial Institutions, Joint Legislative Ethics and Rules committees and the State Controlling Board.
He is President and Chief Executive Officer of Professional Employment Services of America.
Sen. Miller holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and a Master of Arts in Public Administration from The Ohio State University.
He has received more than 400 community, state and national awards, including the Ohio Legislative Black Caucus Trailblazer Award, the Columbus Education Association’s Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Humanitarian Award, and the Chairman’s Award form the Ohio Commission on Minority Health.
The Feb. 25 concert by the Dorthy White Quartet will focus on the influence of African Americans on classical music. The event will feature a wide range of chamber music classics.
