Champaign County Essay Contest

Champaign County graduating seniors from Graham, Mechanicsburg, Triad, Urbana and West Liberty-Salem High Schools have the opportunity to win one full-tuition scholarship for the 2008-2009 academic year from Urbana University through an essay writing contest. Runner-up scholarships for $7,500 each will be awarded to one student from each high school as well. There will be a total of six scholarships awarded through this contest.

Each scholarship is renewable as long as the student maintains full-time enrollment at Urbana University, a 3.0 cumulative GPA, and remains in good-standing with Urbana University at all times. Scholarship amounts do not change from year to year based on any changes in tuition and fees.

Applicants must meet the following criteria in order to submit their essay for judging:

• Apply to Urbana University for fall semester 2008
• Have at least a 3.2 Cumulative GPA through mid-term of their senior year
• Visit campus and have a one-on-one interview with an admissions counselor
• Submit one letter of recommendation from their HS Guidance Counselor
• Submit one letter of recommendation from one HS teacher of their choice
• File a FAFSA prior to June 1, 2008

Students who meet the criteria above must submit an essay on “How Urbana University has made an impact on the Champaign County community and to their family.” Essays should be no longer than two (2) pages in length, should be type-written and double-spaced. All essays are due to the Urbana University Director of Admissions no later than April 15, 2008.
