Urbana, Ohio – Imagine a food drive that can collect nearly 221,028 pounds of food in a single day. Now imagine the number of people that could be fed with all those donations. All of our local donations will go to Urbana's Caring Kitchen.
In 2006, an event called Cans Across America was introduced. Involving to college campuses across the United States, the objective of this event was to break the Guinness® World Record for the most non-perishable food collected in a 24 hour period. While last year’s collections fell just short of the current world record of 221,028.85 pounds, Campus Dining at Urbana University is set to make this year’s event bigger and better than last year. Cans Across America 2007 will be held on November 7th from 9:00am -7:00pm at the University Student Center.
Drop-off locations are at the following businesses:
- Urbana University/Student Center
- Kroger’s
- Caring Kitchen
- White Ford
- Sweeting Tire
- The Depot Coffee House
- Big Lots
- Perpetual Federal Savings Bank
- 5/3 Bank
- Sparky's Pizza
Cans Across America is a unique promotion because it combines a nationwide stop hunger initiative with a rewarding experience in which all students can be proud to participate. Today’s student is one who is concerned about social issues and the communities in which they live, and this promotion is a great way for them to get involved and make a positive impact. Students, faculty, staff and the general community are encouraged to participate in this initiative.
According to Diane Rader, General Manager, “We are very excited to make this year’s Cans Across America event even bigger and better than last year’s, and we are confident that the record will soon belong to us! We invite everyone who is willing to come out and contribute to this great cause.” Cans Across America will take place on November 7, 2007 only.
