UNIVERSITY SINGERS TO PRESENT FALL CONCERT

URBANA, Ohio (November 13, 2008) - The Urbana University Singers will present their Fall Concert on Sunday, November 23 rd at the First Presbyterian Church, 116 West Court Street in Urbana. The concert will begin at 3:00 P.M. There is no admission charge for this event. The church building is handicapped accessible.

The Fall Concert will feature both the University Singers and a new chamber ensemble, just created in the Fall Semester. Nuovo Canzone, an eight voice chamber choir will feature mainly music from the Renaissance and Baroque Periods. Eventually, their repertoire will grow to include music from all style periods. Selections to be performed by Nuovo Canzone will be “Ave Maria” by Victoria, and “Christmas Fanfare” by Hart. Selections to be performed by the University Singers will include “The Heavens are Telling” from “The Creation” by Haydn, featuring Soprano Amie Illinik, Tenor David James, and Baritone Rocky Swonger; “The Last Words of David” by Thompson; “Still, Still, Still” arranged by Luboff, featuring Soprano Brieann Wisse; “Ev’ry Time I Feel the Spirit” arranged by Dawson and featuring Baritone Phil Toon, and “Saul” by Egil Hovland. “Saul” is composed for choir, organ, and narrator. Damian Anaya will be featured as narrator for this selection.

The choirs will be accompanied by Jane Martin, organist and pianist for First Presbyterian Church; and conducted by Robert G. Marks, Director of Choral Activities.
