SHAKESPEARE RETURNS TO UU AFTER A YEAR ABSENCE

URBANA, Ohio, (April 10, 2008) - The show must go on…even if it has been delayed for a year. This is the case when Urbana University students and alumni will perform the second act of “The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged)” on April 23 in the converted Hub on Urbana University’s campus.

Last year’s performance of the play was cut short at the end of the first act when a cast member fell and was injured. Undaunted, the remaining cast members have waited an entire year to finish the production. Billed as the world’s longest intermission, commemorative shirts will be sold at the performance to mark the occasion.

Original cast members include Megan-Marie Johnson and Eric W. Miller who are joined by new actors to the production, Tiffany Christiansen and Amie Illinik. The performance will begin in the Hub at 5pm following the Bard’s birthday festivities held in the Atrium of the Barclay/Bailey Halls on campus.

Margaret Piatt, Director of Theater at Urbana sees a growing interest in theatre arts on campus. She said, "I’m impressed that the students cared enough to complete this production on their own and to celebrate the birthday of Shakespeare.”
