Black Student Union
The purpose of the Urbana University Black Student Union (BSU) is to educate the University’s community to the contributions of African Americans; to assist, guide, and orient incoming African American students; to provide continual guidance for members of the Union; to improve relationships between all other students; to provide a social and cultural outlet for its members; to participate in the cultural, social, and athletic activities of Urbana University. Furthermore, it seeks to provide enriching experiences and assure continuing development of a progressive environment which is conducive to African American students in their quest to obtain a quality and meaningful education.
The BSU welcomes any active Urbana University student for membership who shares the goals and vision of our organization.The BSU meets on the first and third Monday of each month at 8 p.m. downstairs in the Student Center.
The current officers are: Purnell Sweeney – President, Monica Miller – Vice President, Mark Miller – Treasurer and Carmen Chavis – Secretary
We are excited about hosting a commemoration ceremony in honor of the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., which will be held on Tuesday, January 22, 2008. More details of this event will be announced soon.
