Urbana University - New Interactive Exhibit Will Bring “Johnny Appleseed” to Life

Jun. 24th, 2014

Thanks to the generous gift of $30,000 from an anonymous donor, the Johnny Appleseed Educational Center & Museum at Urbana University will be creating an interactive exhibit detailing the impact of John Chapman. This traveling exhibit, featuring augmented reality, hands on activities, and artifacts from Chapman’s life work, will open tentatively in September 2015 at the Boonshoft Museum of Discovery’s satellite site located in the Upper Valley Mall in Springfield, Ohio. Cheryl Ogden, Johnny Appleseed Museum director, said, “This gift will allow the museum to tell the story about John Chapman’s life and work to an expanded audience that we might not have been able to reach before. The plan is to have this exhibit travel the country telling the story of this remarkable man to even more people. Fees from the exhibit’s rental will contribute to sustaining the Johnny Appleseed Educational Center and Museum here at Urbana University.” For additional information regarding this exhibit or the Museum, contact Cheryl Ogden at cogden@urbana.edu or 937-484-1303.
