Lincoln Exhibit Grand Opening with Actor Fritz Klein

URBANA, Ohio (January 29, 2014) - Abraham Lincoln will discuss his life and Presidency at Urbana University in the Sara Landess Room of the Student Center on Saturday, February 8 at 7 pm. The event and parking are free and open to the public. Actor Fritz Klein, of the Lincoln Institute, will appear as Lincoln to kick off the opening of the national traveling exhibit, Abraham Lincoln: the Civil War and the Constitution, which will be available for viewing in the Swedenborg Memorial Library at Urbana University until March 20.

Abraham Lincoln was confronted with enormous challenges when he was elected president in 1860. The nation was on the brink of Civil War, and Lincoln struggled with issues of secession, slavery and civil liberties—all questions our country’s founding charter left unanswered. President Lincoln used the Constitution to confront these three intertwined crises of war, ultimately reinventing the Constitution and the promise of American life. The exhibition develops a more complete understanding of Abraham Lincoln as president and the Civil War as the nation’s gravest constitutional crisis.

Actor Fritz Klein has been a full-time actor and speaker for many years. Klein was first asked to portray Lincoln after performing as Lyman Beecher in a local history pageant. After a number of requests for repeat performances, he decided to begin extensive research in order to write a one-man production on Lincoln. That production has led to many others. He resides in Springfield, Illinois where he performs at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum, as well as many other venues around the country and has appeared as Lincoln on the History Channel, the Discovery Channel, National Geographic Television, and C-Span.
