University partners with Columbus company to link master’s degree and jobs.

URBANA — Urbana University and a Columbus business are beginning an experiment that, if successful, could provide a new way for the university to reach prospective students and provide better-trained employees for the company.

The university will offer a master’s of business degree to about 20 employees at AkzoNobel, a Columbus company that produces specialty chemicals, paints and coatings to clients throughout the world. Much of the program will be provided online, but staff from the university will have some classes at the company’s Columbus offices or at a site nearby.

The MBA program is similar to the one offered to traditional students, but it will accommodate the hectic schedule of the company’s employees and will use real-life situations the company is facing.
