Foundation gambles and wins with Casino Royale event
On Saturday, May 18, at 6 p.m., the Urbana University Foundation held its annual fund raising event, An Evening at the Casino Royale at the Urbana Christian Conference Center. The evening featured a gourmet dinner prepared by Chef Chetty of Fusion 40.83, dancing, casino gaming, and auction excitement!
Some of the big ticket items in the auction were a ride in the Champaign Gal B-25 bomber, a Honda lawn mower and tiller, a Smith & Wesson Bodyguard .380 pistol with a conceal and carry course, a monthly flower bouquet from Bill’s Enchanted Flowers and Gifts, and dinner every month at Fusion 40.83 for a year. A highlight of the evening was auctioning off the opportunity to help support Presidential Scholars Program at the university, which sold for more than $6,000.00.
Raffle prizes included the private use of the AkzoNobel corporate suite to see the Columbus Crew play the New York Red Bulls and an authentic game jersey signed by the team members, a Barclay Baily Hall Print by artist Mike Major, a framed Fossil from the Jurassic Period from the Wenya Museum in China, and a gourmet gift basket donated by Mad River Farm Market.
“The generosity of attendees is going to profoundly impact our ability to not only attract and retain high caliber students but also to provide the types of high-impact experiences that get students excited about the Urbana experience,” said Greg Stocksdale, of the Urbana University Foundation. “The resources made possible through this event will enhance the ways we engage and connect with current students, prospective students, alumni and corporate partners, enabling us to better support our students’ academic success while laying the foundations for their personal and professional success.”
Special thanks go out to the local people and businesses who donated prizes, time, and endless effort; Champaign Aviation Museum, Fusion 40.83, Bill’s Enchanted Flowers and Gifts, In Company with Angels Inc., Honda of America Manufacturing Inc., AcuSport Corporation, the Urbana Christian Conference Center, AkzoNobel and the Columbus Crew, Mike Major, Bob Ogden, and Mad River Farm Market.
Thank you to all of those who were in attendance and contributed to the success of the event!
