So You Think You Own an Antique

In Company with Angels Welcomes Garth's Auctioneers

URBANA, Ohio (December 6, 2012) - In conjunction with the In Company with Angels: Seven Rediscovered Tiffany Windows exhibit currently at the Urbana University Swedenborg Memorial Library, the Miller Center for Visual Arts along with Garth’s Auctioneers & Appraisers will present “So You Think You Own an Antique” appraisal day on Thursday, December 13 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The appraisal will take place in a different section of the Library away from the exhibit.

Steve Bemiller, vice president of Garth’s Auctions, will evaluate and provide verbal appraisals of decorative arts, paintings, prints, pottery, glass, and more. The limit is two items for a $5 donation.

Ohio’s oldest premier auction house is Garth’s Auctioneers & Appraisers, founded in 1954 by Garth Oberlander. Garth’s Auctioneers is known internationally as a full-service auctioneer of fine collectibles such as furniture, fine and folk arts, antiques, pottery, porcelain, glass, jewelry, quilts, samplers, dolls, toys, firearms, Native American artifacts, Oriental rugs, other historic materials and real estate.

Jeff and Amelia Jeffers have wholly owned Garth’s Auctions since 2006 after a decade in a cooperating association with the previous owners, Tom and Carolyn Porter. The present husband and wife team have increased the annual revenues to almost $10 million dollars per year.

Jeff, CEO and principal auctioneer, became a member of the Certified Appraisers Guild of America in 1999. He is known throughout central Ohio as an auctioneer and appraiser. Charitable organizations have benefitted from his skills, having helped to raise over three million dollars for non-profits. Jeff contributes to local, national and trade publications including writing a monthly column in Columbus Business First. He often is heard on the radio and on talk shows commenting on the antique industry.

Amelia, president of Garth’s and auctioneer, serves on the boards of The Delaware (Ohio) Arts Festival, Andrews House, and the Parents’ Association of Columbus Academy. She also is involved with the American Heart Association Go Red for Women Campaign, Delaware County Community Foundation, Ohio Historical Society, Columbus Museum of Art, the Ohio Art League and other organizations.
