UU to Celebrate Arbor Day
URBANA, Ohio (April 19, 2012) - The Urbana University Tree Campus USA Planning Committee invites the campus community to participate in the 2012 Arbor Day Celebration on Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. in front of McConnell Hall to help plant a tree. Students from Dr. Tingting Cai’s botany class will be present will throw in the first shovels of dirt. A proclamation from City of Urbana Mayor Bill Bean, a 1971 alumnus of Urbana University, will be read along with a greeting from President Stephen Jones.
Members of the Tree Campus USA Planning Committee are: Dr. Tingting Cai, chair; Dr. Cheryl Fenno, faculty representative; Christina Bruun-Horrigan, administration representative; Jennifer Midgley, staff representative; John Deere, facilities representative; Melissa Bell, student representative; and Alan Evans, City of Urbana and Tree City USA representative.
The committee has been meeting for over a year to prepare the application to submit to the National Arbor Day Foundation Tree Campus USA. The goal is to be recognized as a Tree Campus USA at the 2013 Arbor Day Foundation Awards Program to be held at Urbana University.

Throughout the academic year, other educational events and activities will be planned as the University looks to incorporating care for the environment into the curriculum and life on campus.
