Third Annual Celebrating Scholarship Thank you Brunch
URBANA, Ohio (October 4, 2013) - The Urbana University Foundation Board of Directors hosted the third annual Celebrating Scholarship Brunch on Saturday, September 28 in the Sara Landess Room of the Student Center. More than one-hundred student- scholars, family members, donors, University board members and foundation directors, administrators, faculty members, and staff attended the event.

The event recognized students who were awarded one of thirty-three UU Endowed Scholarships or who received scholarships from the Ohio Foundation of Independent Colleges (OFIC).
The program began with a welcome from Interim President Kirk Peterson. He recognized the scholarship donors who were present: Lee Bumbalough and family, Katie Feick, Tony Joy, and Diane McConnell. Also present representing the Austin E. Knowlton Foundation was Sherri Caulk and her husband, Charles. Wendy Thornton, administrative assistant, scholarships and college services, was present to meet the students awarded an OFIC scholarship.
“The total dollars awarded to our students for this academic year is $139,780.00,” reported Dr. Peterson. “In many cases, these scholarships made the difference in whether a student continued his or her education or not.”
He closed his remarks by thanking “the donors who continue to advance high academic standards and performance at our University.”
James Tucker, president of the Student Government Association and an OFIC scholarship recipient, spoke on behalf of all scholarship recipients, thanking all the donors in attendance. “Your assistance lightened the financial burden that comes with attending college and is truly appreciated.”
James Thornton, vice president for Institutional Advancement and Communications, closed the brunch with a reminder to all to return to campus for Homecoming on October 12, 2013.
