Miller Center for Visual Arts to Host New Exhibit
In Company with Angels: Seven Rediscovered Tiffany Windows
URBANA, Ohio (November 5, 2012) - In Company with Angels: Seven Rediscovered Tiffany Windows is a unique exhibit of seven stained glass windows created by Tiffany and Company in 1903 as a gift from a sister Swedenborgian church to the Church of the New Jerusalem in Cincinnati, Ohio. In 1964, the church was torn down to make room for a new interstate highway.
The windows were rescued and stored in different members’ homes. A nationwide fundraising effort in the 1990’s allowed the Swedenborgian Church at Temenos in West Chester, Pennsylvania to buy the windows and save them.
The windows were taken out of the church’s storage barn and begun to be restored. In 2005, when the windows were confirmed to be Tiffany artwork, the nonprofit organization, In Company with Angels, Inc. was formed to finish the restoration and begin to share them with others.
Urbana University and The Miller Center for Visual Arts are pleased to host this unique and beautiful exhibit from November 10 – December 30, 2012 in the Swedenborg Memorial Library on UU's campus in Urbana, Ohio. The exhibit will be open to the public for extended hours. A variety of symposia, programs, and tours are also planned.
On Saturday, November 10, 2012, at 6:00 p.m. the exhibit will open with a program by the Reverend Susannah Currie, pastor of the Bridgewater New Jerusalem Church in Bridgewater, Massachusetts, on the history of the windows and the In Company with Angels organization.
The Grand Opening weekend will continue with a public presentation entitled “Angel Music” by the Reverend Ken Turley, president of the General Convention of the New Jerusalem, on Sunday, November 11 from 3-4 p.m. in the Library.
