Three days of color, camaraderie, and friendly competition marked Urbana University’s annual Homecoming celebration on October 19-21. Alumni, students, parents, faculty, staff, and friends enjoyed a packed schedule of events.
The Blue Knights Women’s Soccer kicked off the weekend with a “W”. The women’s soccer team shut out Ohio Midwestern University 3-0 and celebrated Senior Day.
The Volleyball and Soccer Reunion brought graduates together to reminisce in-between the women’s soccer and the volleyball game, which ended with another victory; a three set sweep! Students, faculty, and, always Knitro, showed Blue Knight spirit all day long with Urbana apparel and creative costumes.
New this year, the Pancake Breakfast got alumni to campus bright and early to begin the celebration. Class years that ended in 1 and 7 were given the opportunity to sit together and reminisce. To kick off the event, President Jones gave a Homecoming Welcome. The Three Arches Alumni Awards were honorably presented to James Copes ’76 and Chris Willis ’94. A festive crowd gathered for the many tailgate parties before the football game. Tailgates were hosted by Leila Blake Anderson ’86, the College of Arts and Behavioral Sciences, the Swedenborg Memorial Library, Faculty and Staff, Trip Hopkins ’96, and the Blue Knights Men’s Basketball team.
The Urbana University Blue Knights Football game started at noon against McKendree University Bearcats. The game brought the crowd to life at the UU Stadium when the Blue Knights continued their season with 533 total yards and a 31-23 victory. The win is Urbana’s tenth in the past eleven homecomings, and it’s the third straight year the Blue Knights have topped 500 yards and 30 points in a Homecoming win.

Josh Brown from Memphis, Tennessee, and Meghan Taucher from Lima, Ohio, were crowned the 2012 Homecoming King and Queen during the halftime show. The Royal Blues band, color guard, and cheerleaders performed.
Other reunions were held for cheerleading and band.
Following the football game, alumni and friends gathered at the “After Hours” Party at Bracken’s Pub hosted by alumni. Homecoming concluded on Sunday with a worship service at the Swedenborg Church in Urbana.
