UU College of Social & Behavioral Sciences New Film Discussion Series
So We Won the War...Now What??
URBANA, Ohio (September 14, 2012) – The Urbana University College of Social and Behavioral Sciences invites the public to experience a substantive “Constitution Week” celebration as they kick off a Film Discussion Series for the 2012-2013 academic year. On Tuesday, September 18, from 6:00 – 8:30 p.m. in the University Student Center Multi-Purpose Room, join Ryan Enlow, assistant professor of political science, as he presents segments of the History Channel’s modern classic series, The Revolution and Founding Brothers for a lecture and discussion. Enlow entitles his program “So We Won The War….Now What???”
The American War for Independence was merely the first act in what would really culminate as a four stage revolution (complete with at least one counter-revolution). So, while that war was more than “handy” for Yankee Doodle Dandy, his newborn babe of a nation was certainly not out of the proverbial “woods” for another full generation.
Emphasis will be placed on just how close the American Experiment came to utter failure and, more importantly, upon the extraordinary leadership and political intrigue that had been required to avoid failure. Two hundred and twenty-three year old political institutions were not established by compromise, great ideas, and sacred documents alone.
Mr. Enlow, on the Urbana University faculty for five years, is currently pursuing a doctorate in Public Policy and Law at Walden University. He received his bachelor and master degrees from Eastern Kentucky University with an emphasis in The US Constitution, political theory, and public law/policy. He completed further graduate work in public administration at Wright State University in 2006 and 2007.
Next month, Wendy Gilbert will present the second film discussion program, “Myths and Realities in the Criminal Justice System”. This will be a lunch “brown bag” discussion held at noon. More information will be forthcoming prior to the program.
