A Taste of the Red, White, and Brew: A Delicious Success
The saying goes, "There can be no bargain without wine." The Urbana community proved this Latin proverb true on Friday, May 5, when Urbana University and members of the University Foundation hosted its annual fundraiser to support the endowment fund.
A Taste of the Red, White, and Brew featured a two hour wine and beer tasting with a silent auction followed by a live auction. Auction items included a trip to Nashville, a day at the Dayton Dragons, and a gift basket sponsored by Ohio Wine Producers Association. The highest bid was for the sponsorship of the women’s basketball team’s trip to Puerto Rico; an opportunity for the team to experience international competition.
Head women’s basketball coach, Maria Marchesano, stated after the event, “This is just great! I’m grateful for this opportunity because the trip experience will round out the collegiate athlete experience for many of the women on the team. It’s the caliber of work expected at a NCAA Division II school. Thank you to the bidders. The women on the team are going to be thrilled we are closer to our goal.”
"The wine and beer tasting combined with the auction helps the future of Urbana University by keeping the institution competitive in Ohio. It allows the University to provide scholarship dollars to students by growing its endowment funds,” stated Jeff Darding, chair of the Foundation Board. "By showing that we believe in the Urbana University students, the spirit of the evening helps connect the present to the future."
Proceeds from the event directly support endowed scholarships at Urbana University for many qualified students.
The money raised could not have been achieved without the support and commitment of the University Foundation Board and all of the supporters whose generosity made this event such a success. Special thanks to auctioneer Todd Woodruff for volunteering his talent and time.
