Students Give Thanks

Urbana University students have many reasons for which to be thankful, and on November 15 they stopped and said “thank you” to those closest to them as part of National Philanthropy Day on campus.

Led by the Office of Alumni Relations, Urbana students thanked alumni givers for their participation in this year’s 50/50 Alumni giving campaign which concluded in October.  A table was set up in the Student Center for students to write personal thank you notes to those who have helped make Urbana University a special place.

More than 30 students participated in the note writing.  Notes included sentiments of gratitude, appreciation, and in some instances, personal messages.  Junior Alonzo Turner wrote, “It’s people like you that really inspire me to do my best at everything.  I’m an athletic training major here at Urbana and I wouldn’t trade it for the world.  I appreciate all you do.”

The Office of Alumni Relations hosts the activity to facilitate an active relationship between students and alumni. It advances unity within the University community by promoting activities and programs to preserve traditions that strengthen lifelong loyalty to Urbana.

“With over 80% of our students receiving some sort of aid or scholarship, we want to recognize the alumni and donors to say ‘Thank You’ in our own special way for what they do for students.  It also helps students make the connection that alumni-giving directly impacts the college experience,” said director of alumni relations Kat Steiner.

National Philanthropy Day, one of the University’s annual activities to increase awareness and celebrate those who support Urbana, is celebrated nationally each November to pay tribute to those who give of their time, talent, and treasure to enhance and improve the quality of life in our communities and our world.
