Swedenborg Memorial Library

The Swedenborg Memorial Library, built in 1968, is located on the west side of the campus. It houses more than 71,000 books, 800 current print and electronic periodicals, microforms, and audio visual titles, and seats 200 patrons. The building contains a Media Center, A Rare Book Room with items dating from the eighteenth century, and the Swedenborgian Collections of books and other items by and about the Church of the New Jerusalem.

Urbana University is a member of the OhioLINK statewide academic library network. The automated catalog and over 100 databases are available from the library, from the campus computer network, and from off campus. The reference collection includes current resources in all areas taught at the University. In addition to accessing materials at Urbana from OhioLINK, patrons may request materials from other libraries. OhioLINK allows patrons to initiate requests for books and other items from other Ohio academic libraries. Also, Urbana's membership in the Online Computer Library Center (OCLC) allows library staff to request books, copies of periodical articles, and other items for patrons from libraries throughout the nation. In addition, OhioLINK and membership in the Southwest Ohio Council from Higher Education (SOCHE) allows patrons to visit other area academic libraries (Wright State, Wittenberg, etc.) and borrow materials.

The ability to identify and locate information is one skill that is enhanced by the Urbana University library staff. Assisting the university community in the use of information resources is the staff's primary responsibility. Library staff members provide instruction in the use of electronic, print, and other resources. Computer resources are also available for word processing and other tasks. Audiovisual equipment and materials are available as well.
