Conversations in the Library- Dr. Randy Overbeck

Swedenborg Memorial Library

09/25/2012 04:30 PM - 06:00 PM

The College of Education and Sports Studies will sponsor a "Conversations in the Library" on Tuesday, September 25, 2012 at 4:30 p.m. in the Swedenborg Memorial Library. The presenter is Dr. Randy Overbeck, educator, author, and speaker, who will speak on the topic, " Teachers: the Real American Heroes."

Dr. Randy Overbeck, veteran school leader, winner of the 2003 National Teacher-Leader Award from RRCNA and author of the groundbreaking novel Leave No Child Behind, will share an inspiring and uplifting message about the heroic, life-altering work of teachers. Using the true stories of real teacher-heroes - like Dave Sanders, the hero of Columbine who saved over a hundred students that fateful day; Marie Clay, who revolutionized teachers' knowledge and understanding of beginning literacy and helped to rescue thousands of struggling students from illiteracy; and, Jamie Escalante, who used math to transform the lives of gang students from East LA - his talk will affirm the remarkable work teachers do to meet the incredible, sometimes overwhelming needs of their students.
