Urbana Multi-Purpose Facility

URBANA, Ohio (June 9, 2005) – Urbana University held a press conference today to unveil plans for the new student center and multi-purpose football/soccer complex, and to announce the $4.7 million capitol campaign has been reached.

The $4.7 million campaign was established to be completed in five years. Urbana University president Dr. Robert L. Head announced the campaign goal was accomplished in just two years.

Construction is under way on the 27,000 sq. ft. student center which is expected to be completed by August 1, 2006. The groundbreaking for the multi-purpose complex, which will be home field for the football, and the men’s and women’s soccer teams, will begin March 2006 with and be completed by August 2006. The complex will also be utilized by the Royal Blues marching band and Urbana’s intramural programs. The complex, which will cost $1 million to construct, will have an artificial turf surface.

“This is an exciting day to be a Blue Knight,” said Urbana University football coach Todd Murgatroyd. “The new complex will help improve our retention for both football and soccer, giving our student athletes a first-rate facility to showcase their skills.

“This will give the student body, faculty and staff a sense of pride watching games on the Urbana campus,” he added. “In 2006 we’ll have a place we can finally call home.”
