Urbana is 10-2 and undefeated at Ellis Field
URBANA, Ohio (Sept. 29, 2007) – Blue Knight freshman Randi Granat scored two goals to lead Urbana to a 6-0 win over Rio Grande Saturday which helped them to an undefeated record at Ellis Field (6-0). Granat was one of four freshmen who notched goals vs. the Redwomen. Junior Abigail Nelson also netted a goal.
Urbana (10-2, 2-1 AMC) out shot Rio, 37-3. Freshman Sara Kuykendall put the Blue Knights on the board first putting away a goal off a cornerkick. Nelson scored her goal in the 17th minute on a through pass from freshman Micki Sumner. Freshman M.E. Daniels scored the third goal of the day with a trick shot. Standing near the end line she crossed the ball which took a bounce over the Rio keeper. Granat scored the next two goals to give Urbana a 5-0 lead at the half. Her first she created on her own, stealing an errant pass and beating the keeper with a shot to near post. The second came on a corner kick taken by senior Julie Glaser. Granat got a head on the cross sending it to the back of the net.
Freshman Kayleen Roth scored the final goal of the match in the 57th minute. Senior Brittany Webb dribbled to the corner and crossed to the waiting Roth who one-touched it through the pipes past Rio's goalkeeper. Rio, just in its third year as a varsity program, set a school record for wins coming in with four. They fall to 4-7-0 and 0-1 in the AMC.
Urbana plays a non-conference match at Berea, Ky. Saturday, Oct. 6 at 2 p.m.
