Shope Named NAIA All-American
Urbana sophomore defender earns honor
URBANA, Ohio (December 10, 2007) –The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced its picks for the 2007 NAIA Women's Soccer All-American teams, as chosen by the NAIA Women's Soccer All-American Selection Committee. Urbana University sophomore Kristen Shope (Dayton, Ohio/Carroll HS) was named an honorable mention all-American defender. Shope, a 5-foot-4 sophomore and defensive force for the Blue Knights, became the second Urbana women’s soccer player to be named an all-American. [more]

Five Soccer Players Named NAIA Scholar Athletes
URBANA , Ohio (November 27, 2007) – The 2007 Men’s and Women’s Soccer Daktronics NAIA Scholar Athlete Teams were recently released and five Urbana University student athletes were honored.

Blue Knight men’s soccer players Derek Ballas (Massillon, Ohio), Eric Miller (Grove City, Ohio) and Rick Schnipke (Kalida, Ohio), all seniors, were honored on the list. Seniors Dee Clemons (Piqua, Ohio) and Brittany Webb (Springfield, Ohio) represented the Urbana women’s soccer team as NAIA Scholar Athletes.


Five Blue Knights Named All-AMC
URBANA, Ohio (October 30, 2007) – Following a record-breaking season by the Blue Knight women’s soccer team, the individual honors have started to roll in. Urbana posted a 14-win season and made it to the American Mideast Conference tournament for the first time since 2001.Five Blue Knights were honored when the all-AMC teams were released today.Seniors Darby McCullough (Urbana, Ohio/Graham), a forward, and Julie Glaser (Xenia, Ohio/Xenia), a midfielder, and sophomore defender Kristen Shope (Dayton, Ohio/Carroll) were named second team all-AMC. Junior midfielder Abigail Nelson (Waynesville, Ohio/Waynesville) and sophomore goalkeeper Melanie Johansing (Cincinnati/Roger Bacon) were honorable mention all-AMC selections. [more]

Blue Knights Shut Out 2-0 in AMC Tournament
Panthers' Burgei scores twice in Urbana's second loss to ODU
COLUMBUS (Oct. 27, 2007) – The Blue Knights' terrific, record-breaking season came to an end Saturday night at Panther Field with a 2-0 loss to NAIA No. 19 Ohio Dominican (14-3, 5-1 AMC) in the American Mideast Conference Tournament. Urbana (14-5, 4-2 AMC) suffered just five losses all season - two of which were against ODU. Urbana's 2007 season is one that saw the Blue Knights break the record for single-season wins (14) and tie the record for shutouts (8). Also, junior Abi Nelson broke the single-season record for assists (11). [Stats]

Urbana to Take on Panthers in Playoffs

The Blue Knight women’s soccer team will play at Ohio Dominican (13-3, 5-1 AMC) this Saturday, Oct. 27 at 7 p.m. at Panther Field in the American Mideast Conference Tournament. Urbana, which finished third in the AMC South Division, closed out the 2007 regular season with a 14-4 overall record, including 4-2 in conference play. The 14 wins broke an Urbana single season record for victories.

The NAIA No. 10 Panthers earned a share of the AMC South Division title, but Mount Vernon Nazarene won the head-to-head match against ODU, 4-0 (Oct. 23). That win earned the Cougars an automatic bid to the NAIA Region IX Final Four which will be played on Nov. 2-3 at Mount Vernon. Houghton (11-2-2, 7-0 AMC) earned the automatic bid from the North Division. With a win over ODU, the Blue Knights would also advance to the Region IX Final Four. ODU dealt Urbana one of its two conference losses this season, 3-0 on Sept. 26. The last time the Blue Knights advanced to AMC playoffs was in 2001.

Urbana Clinches AMC Tourney Berth
Abi Nelson scores twice in Blue Knights' win over Shawnee State
PORTSMOUTH, Ohio (Oct. 20, 2007) – The Blue Knights bounced back in a big way with a 3-0 American Mideast Conference win over Shawnee State on Saturday. Senior Julie Glaser put Urbana on the board first with an assist from fellow senior Darby McCullough in the 19th minute. Junior Abi Nelson scored the first of her two goals in the 36th minute to give Urbana a 2-0 halftime lead. Nelson, who has a team-leading 27 points, put the game away midway through the second stanza, hitting her second goal in the 76th minute. Urbana (14-4, 4-2 AMC) advances to the AMC Tournament which will be played this Saturday, Oct. 27. [Stats]

Blue Knights Suffer Back-to-Back Shutouts
Notre Dame's Bernot gets hat trick in 3-0 decision
URBANA, Ohio (Oct. 18, 2007) – Urbana lost by shutout in back-to-back contests, most recently a 3-0 setback to Notre Dame College on Thursday at Ellis Field. The Blue Knights struggled against the 23-mph winds as the Falcons used it to their advantage. Natlaie Bernot scored the first of three goals, on a corner kick that found the far post. Bernot scored again in the 35th minute on a free kick to give NDC a 2-0 lead at the half. She finished off the hat trick with another taser on a free kick, this one in the 70th minute of the match. Urbana (13-4-2) plays its final regular season match at Shawnee State in a must-win American Mideast Conference contest Saturday, Oct. 20 at 2 p.m. A win ensures the Blue Knights will earn a berth to the AMC Tournament. Urbana Dealt First Home Loss This Season
Walsh shuts out Blue Knights, 4-0, at Ellis Field
URBANA, Ohio (Oct. 13, 2007) – Urbana trailed just 1-0 at the half to Walsh University, but after four games in eight days, the Blue Knights struggled to contain the Walsh attack and fell 4-0 in the American Mideast Conference match. The Cavaliers (12-3-2, 2-2-1 AMC) out shot Urbana, 25-12, to keep its playoff hopes alive. The Blue Knights host Notre Dame in a non-conference match this Thursday, Oct. 18 at 2 p.m., and then travel to Portsmouth, Ohio to take on Shawnee State for their regular season finale and a key AMC match on Tuesday, Oct. 20 at 2 p.m.

BEREA, Ky. (Oct. 6, 2007) – The Blue Knight women’s soccer team improved to 11-2 after a 6-0 non-conference win over Berea College Saturday. It's the second consecutive game Urbana has won by six goals. They knocked off Rio Grande, 6-0, a week ago in American Mideast Conference action. Senior Darby McCullough scored three goals to pace Urbana. Senior Dee Clemons and freshmen Kara Waldon and Randi Granat each scored a goal. Junior Abi Nelson and freshman M.E. Even rarer is siblings playing at the same college. The Blue Knights boast a sibling connection. The brother and sister duo of Will and M.E. Daniels, of Lake Orion, Mich., not only share a last name, but also both play for Urbana University’s soccer programs. [more]

Blue Knights Ranked 4th in Region IX
URBANA, Ohio (Oct. 2, 2007) – The Blue Knight women’s soccer team is ranked fourth in the most recent NAIA Region IX ratings. Urbana University (10-2, 2-1 AMC) is undefeated at home at Ellis Field (6-0) and were victorious over Mount Vernon Nazarene, 3-2, on Sept. 22, marking the first time the Blue Knights have defeated MVNU since 2001. GOSHEN, Ind. (Sept. 13, 2007) – Blue Knight freshman Micki Sumner’s first collegiate goal was a big one and proved to be the game winner in Urbana’s 1-0 win over Goshen College Thursday. Sumner scored in the 53rd minute on an assist from junior Abi Nelson, giving Nelson a team-high six helpers this season. UPLAND , Ind. (Sept. 11, 2007) – The Blue Knight women’s soccer team chalked up another victory, improving to 6-1 on the season, after a 2-1 win over Taylor University Tuesday. Urbana jumped to a 2-0 lead at the half thanks to goals by Abi Nelson and Darby McCullough. Nelson scored five minutes into the match beating the defense to a thru ball from Julie Glaser. McCullough also scored her goal on a breakaway after a good ball from Nelson. Nelson and McCullough each have three goals this season, tied for the team lead. Nelson leads the team with 11 points. Indianapolis, Ind. (September 5, 2007) – The Urbana University women’s soccer team suffered a 1-0 shutout against Marian College Wednesday in non-conference action. Brittany Knizes scored the only goal of the contest for the Marian Knights (4-0). Melanie Johansing had four saves in goal for the Blue Knights (4-1). Johansing Named AMC Player of the Week
CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Melanie Johansing is the AMC Defensive Player of the Week for matches played on Aug. 27 through Sept. 2. Johansing, a 5-foot-11 sophomore from Cincinnati, Ohio, logged all 270 minutes in goal with two shutouts during Urbana’s 3-0 week. She made one save in a 4-0 win over Huntington, stopped four shots during a 2-1 win vs Point Park, and finished with three saves in a 3-0 victory at Grace.

2007 Urbana Women’s Soccer Preview
The Blue Knight women’s soccer team is coming off a record-breaking season, and aim to accomplish even more in 2007. Urbana University went 9-8-1 last year, with six of its eight losses by two goals or less. Knights Receive Scholastic Honor
URBANA, Oh (Feb. 5, 2007)-- The 2006 Urbana University women's soccer team has been awarded the NSCAA (National Soccer Coaches Athletics Association) Academic Team Award by having a team average GPA of a 3.0 or higher. This is the fourth year in a row that the women's soccer team has received this honor.

Two Knights Named NAIA All-America Scholar Athlete
Urbana, Oh (Nov. 20, 2006)-- Juniors Dee Clemons (Piqua) and Brittany Webb (Springfield) were named to the Daktronics NAIA All-American Scholar Athlete team for their excellence on the field and in the classroom. Clemons, a defender, is a science major.

All-AMC Honors Go to Three Urbana Women
CEDARVILLE, Oh (Nov. 9, 2006)-- Three Blue Knights received honorable mention All-AMC honors when the teams were released on Thursday. Seniors Liz Markley, Jessica Boy, and Marge Warnament all earned their award for their efforts in the season for the Blue Knights. Goalkeeper Markley recorded 93 saves for the year and ended her career with 413 saves which ranks 1st at Urbana. She also ranks first in shut outs with 13. Markley was a 2nd team selection a year ago along with being named an NAIA All-American Honorable Mention. Forward Jessica Boy kicked in 12 goals this season and finished up her career with 29 goals which ranks second in Urbana history. She also has recorded seven assist to bring her to 17 for her career which is 3rd all-time. This year, Boy has set school records for most goals in a single game (6) and most points in a single game (14). She was an AMC Honorable Mention in 2005 as well. Warnament, a defender, is a three year AMC Honorable Mention selection. She is a valuable asset to the Blue Knight defense and served as a team captain. She recorded three assists and one goal this season.

Blue Knights Take Down Bears
PORTSMOUTH, Oh (Oct. 24, 2006)-- Urbana women's soccer finished up the season with a 3-0 win over Shawnee State University. The Blue Knights out shot the Bears 20-8 on the way to the victory. Urbana scored early as Brittany Sword scored an unassisted goal in just the 4th minute of play. Carrie Ricket put one in the net in the 33rd minute off of an Abigail Nelson assist. In the second period, Darby McCullough came through on an unassisted goal to finish off the game in the 84th minute. Urbana goalkeeper Liz Markley recorded the shutout with six saves. Urbana finishes at 9-8-1 and 3-5 in the AMC.

Boy Ties Record
URBANA, Oh (Oct. 17, 2006)-- With her goal against Mount Vernon, Jessica Boy tied the school record for goals in a season with 14. Michelle Williams currently is also at 14 goals for the season. Boy has a chance to break the record in her last game on Tuesday Oct. 24th at Shawnee State University.

Urbana drop game to MVNU
URBANA,Oh (Oct. 17, 2006)-- Urbana University women’s soccer team lost a tough game against Mount Vernon Nazarene University 2-1. MVNU scored once in the first and again in the early second but Urbana senior Marge Warnament found senior forward Jessica Boy to finally get Urbana on the board. They fought the rest of the game but failed to find the back of the net again. This was the last home game for the Urbana University women’s soccer seniors that include Warnament, Boy, Sarah Shope, and goalie Liz Markley who recorded four saves. Freshman goalkeeper Melanie Johansing also recorded four saves for the Blue Knights.

URBANA, Ohio (Oct. 14, 2006) -- Urbana held Malone scoreless in the second half, but it still wasn't enough to overcome the two goals the Pioneers had scored in the first half. Urbana goalkeepers Liz Markley and Melanie Johansing recorded 4 saves each for the Blue Knights.

URBANA, Ohio (Oct. 11, 2006)-- Junior forward Darby McCullough scored at the end of the second to propel Urbana to a 1-0 victory of the visiting Cedarville Lady Jackets. Abigail Nelson was credited with the assist off a corner kick. Liz Markely recorded three saves in the goal for the Blue Knights.

Panthers out shoot, out score Urbana
URBANA, Ohio (Sept. 27, 2006)—The Urbana Blue Knights women’s soccer team dropped to 1-1 in the American Mideast Conference with a 2-0 loss to Ohio Dominican University at Ellis Field. ODU first found the back of the net with 22:49 left in the first period. In the first half for Urbana, Heather Maus had 12 saves. Darby McCollough had two great scoring attacks in the second half to tie the game but came up short. ODU scored again with 1:44 remaining in the second half to seal the victory. Liz Markley had 15 saves in the second half including 2 diving saves. The Panthers out shot the Blue Knights 28-8. Urbana is now 7-4-1 on the season.

Urbana Blanks Redwomen
RIO GRANDE, Ohio (Sept. 20, 2006) -- The Urbana University Women’s Soccer Team won 3-0 on Wednesday evening at Evans Field.
With the victory, their first in the AMC this season, the Blue Knights improve to 7-2-1 overall.

Jessica Boy named Offensive Player of the Week
CEDARVILLE, Ohio (Sept. 19, 2006) – Senior forward Jessica Boy (Carlisle, Oh) was given the top offensive honor as she scored seven goals and five assists in two Urbana victories. During a 6-1 win over Bluffton, Boy scored a goal and offered up two assists. She booted in an impressive six goals and had three assists in a 22-0 pounding of Pikeville (Ky). Her six goals were good enough to set an Urbana single-game record.

Urbana Cruises to 6-1 Victory
BLUFFTON, Ohio (Sept. 13, 2006) -- The Blue Knight men's and women's soccer teams picked up victories in a double header against Bluffton College tonight. The women's team, who have outscored opponents 16-1 in the last four games, had a goal fest in their 6-1 win. Brittany Sword led Urbana with two goals, while Jessica Boy scored a goal and had an assist. Julie Glaser, Carrie Rickett and Trish LaTella each scored goals for Urbana, while Lauren Alford, Dee Clemons and Brittany Webb had assists. Urbana out shot the Beavers 20-12. Liz Markley and Heather Maus each had two saves in goal and Mel Johansing had  six. Urbana (5-2-1) hosts Pikeville College, Ky. this Saturday in a double header. The men's team plays the Bears at 3:30 p.m. and the women's game follows at 5:30 p.m.

Markley Named AMC Player of the Week

Urbana goalkeeper Liz Markley (Cedarville, OH) is the American Mideast Conference women's defensive soccer Player of the Week. Markley, a 5-6 senior, made 12 saves total in a pair of shutouts. She stopped six shots in a 1-0 win versus Marian IN and registered six more saves in a 2-0 victory over Point Park. Abigail Nelson was considered for Offensive Player of the Week after netting two of Urbana's three goals during a 2-0 week.

Urbana Posts Third Consecutive Shutout
PITTSBURGH (Sept. 10, 2006) – The Blue Knight women’s soccer team posted its third consecutive shutout behind senior All-American goalkeeper Liz Markley. The latest victim of Urbana’s was a 2-0 victory over Point Park University. Abigail Nelson scored her second game winning goal in as many matches, this one coming on a penalty kick. Freshman Megan Moser headed in the insurance goal with 40 seconds remaining in the game on assists from Jessica Boy and Brittany Webb. Markley had six saves in the win. Urbana (4-2-1) plays at Bluffton College this Wednesday, Sept. 13 at 3 p.m.

Nelson’s First Goal a Game Winner
URBANA, Ohio (Sept. 7, 2006) – Sophomore forward Abigail Nelson scored her first goal of the 2006 season tonight, the only goal in Urbana University’s 1-0 standoff against Marian College, Ind. The Blue Knights dealt the Knights their first loss of the season, meanwhile Urbana improves to 3-2-1. Freshman Kelsey Riviello’s cross to the middle of the box made Nelson’s goal possible. Liz Markley had six saves in goal for Urbana and posted her second shutout. The Blue Knights had 14 shots to Marian’s 13, but Urbana created many more close opportunities. Urbana plays at Point Park, Pa. this Sunday at 2 p.m.

Urbana Shuts Out Tri-State
ANGOLA, Ind. (Sept. 3, 2006) – The Blue Knight women’s soccer team went on a scoring frenzy with a 7-0 shutout against Tri-State University Sunday at the Lightnings’ tournament. Urbana scored fast and often, opening the first half with a 4-0 lead. Freshman Stephanie Chmiel scored first on assist from Abbie Nelson. Elisha Strous found the back of the net after a pass from junior Julie Glaser – the first of her three assists on the afternoon. Jessica Boy scored the next goal, assisted by Glaser. Glaser was finished her assist hat trick with a pass to freshman Lauren Alford, who put away a goal for Urbana’s four-goal lead at the half. Carrie Rickett scored a goal on an assist from Kelsey Riviello to start out the second half. Glaser got a goal of her own and Boy finished off the scoring for the 7-0 final. The Blue Knights out shot Tri-State 48-2. Urbana goalkeepers Liz Markley and Mel Johansing each had a save. Urbana (2-2-1) hosts Marian College, Ind. this Thursday at 5 p.m.

Last Second Goal Leads to Draw
ANGOLA, Ind. (Sept. 2, 2006) – Senior Jessica Boy keeps coming up with big goals for the Blue Knights. The forward has scored a game-winner and now a game-tying goal, leading Urbana to a 2-2-1 record so far this season. Boy scored with 16 seconds remaining in the game to tie NCAA Buffalo State 1-1 in the opening game of the Tri-State tournament. Senior Liz Markley had 12 saves in goal for the Blue Knights.

No. 17 Indiana Wesleyan Too Tough for Knights
NAIA No. 17th ranked Indiana Wesleyan defeated Urbana University 5-0. The Wildcats improve to 2-1 with the victory while the Blue Knights drop to 1-2. Liz Markley had nine saves in goal just two days after getting nine stitches above her eye in an injury suffered during Urbana's 1-0 win over Notre Dame. Freshman Melanie Johansing had three saves in the second half, and sophomore Heather Maus recorded two saves. Urbana plays at the Tri-State University tournament this weekend before returning home to host Marian on Sept. 7 at 5 p.m.

Boy Lifts Blue Knights to Victory

URBANA, Ohio (August 27, 2006)— The Urbana University women’s soccer team picked up its first win of 2006 off the foot of senior Jessica Boy. After suffering a tough 3-1 loss yesterday to Geneva, the Blue Knight women’s soccer team came out for this afternoon’s match against the Notre Dame Falcons hungry for a victory. Boy, once again, scored the team’s only goal, but this time it proved to be enough as the team recorded a 1-0 win today at Ellis Field. Boy’s goal came just 38 seconds into the game when she followed up freshman Kelsey Riviello’s initial shot which was deflected by the Falcon’s goalie. This victory improves the Blue Knights’ record to 1-1. Their next match up is Tuesday, August 29, 2006 at Indiana Wesleyan at 7 p.m.

Boy Scores First Goal at Ellis Field

URBANA, Ohio (August 26, 2006) – Blue Knight senior Jessica Boy scored the first ever goal on Ellis Field at Urbana University Stadium today, but the women’s soccer team suffered a 3-1 loss to the Geneva Golden Tornadoes tonight. The women’s game followed the Blue Knight football game in which Urbana defeated Southern Virginia University, 52-7. Boy scored her goal just eight minutes into the game on a beautiful kick by junior Julie Glaser. The Tornadoes answered with a goal late in the half and scored two more in the 57th and the 72nd minutes in the second half. Urbana hosts Notre Dame Sunday, August 27, 2006 at 3 p.m.

Women’s Soccer Schedule Released

The 2006 Urbana University women’s soccer season will open up in style with their first game at the brand new multipurpose facility on a turf field. The Blue Knights open August 26 against Geneva College, Pa. at 5 p.m. They will host Notre Dame College, Ohio the very next day at 3 p.m. Urbana closes out August at perennial power Indiana Wesleyan on the 29th at 7 p.m. The Blue Knights play in the Tri-State University, Ind. tournament to start off September. They open American Mideast Conference play Wednesday, September 20 at University of Rio Grande at 5 p.m., followed by a game at Tiffin University. The first home conference game will be against Ohio Dominican University a week later – Sept. 27 at 4:30 p.m. The Blue Knights will also host Cedarville University, Ohio (09/30), Malone College, Ohio (10/14) and Mount Vernon Nazarene University, Ohio (10/17). Urbana plays at Walsh University, Ohio (10/04) and closes the regular season at Shawnee State University (10/24).

Blue Knight Soccer Volunteers

DAYTON, Ohio (March 27, 2006) – Members of the Blue Knight men’s and women’s soccer team volunteered Monday with Child Life at The Children’s Medical Center of Dayton. The Urbana athletes played Bingo and socialized with the children and the children’s parents.

The child life department at The Children's Medical Center of Dayton strives to meet the emotional and psychosocial needs of hospitalized children by providing therapeutic play activities to help ease the stresses of hospitalization.

The Blue Knights will also visit the hospital this Monday.

Blue Knights Earn Academic Honor

The Blue Knight women’s soccer team earned the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Team Academic Award for the fourth consecutive season. The 2004-05 Urbana University women’s soccer team posted a combined 3.09 GPA. The award, first started in 1996, is open to college programs, including NAIA, NCAA I, II, III, and Junior College teams.  Teams must be nominated by the head coach and must have a team GPA of 3.0 or higher to qualify.  In addition, the head coach/institution must be a current member of the NSCAA in order to be recognized.

"The women work hard on and off the field to achieve success,” said Urbana Head Coach Jim Wendling. “I’m honored to have that type of student athlete play for me.”

Markley Named Honorable Mention All-American
URBANA, Ohio (December 5, 2005) – Urbana University women’s soccer player Liz Markley has earned All-American honors for the second time in her career. Markley was a High School All-American goalkeeper at Greenon and now has earned the honor at Urbana University. The NAIA Women's Soccer All-America Selection Committee recently selected its All-America teams and Markley was named a 2005 NAIA Honorable Mention All-American. Markley, a junior goalkeeper, is the first Blue Knight women’s soccer player to be named an All-American. This year she broke Urbana’s season (7) and career (10) shut out records. She started 17 games and logged 1,525 minutes on her way to 122 saves and the seven shutouts, all career bests. Markley holds the school record for goalkeeper games played in a career (49) and career minutes played (3,488). Markley has 318 career saves, also a Blue Knight record.

“Liz is a remarkable athlete and goalkeeper,” said Urbana Coach Jim Wendling. “She worked very hard this year. I’m proud of her efforts and accomplishments.”

She earned 2nd Team All-American Mideast Conference honors and 1st Team All-NAIA Region IX honors this season.

Markley and McCullough Named 2nd Team All-AMC
URBANA, Ohio (December 1, 2005) – Urbana University junior goalkeeper Liz Markley (Cedarville, Ohio/Greenon HS) and sophomore forward Darby McCullough (Urbana, Ohio/Graham HS) were named to the 2005 All-American Mideast Conference South Division Second Team. Markley, also a 1 st Team All-Region IX selection, posted six shutouts and a 1.65 GAA in 2005. McCullough scored eight goals this season and had two assists. Juniors Jessica Boy ( Carlisle, Ohio/Carlisle HS), Sarah Shope ( Dayton, Ohio/Carroll HS) and Marge Warnement ( Marysville, Ohio/Marysville HS) were Honorable Mention selections to the All-AMC Team. Boy led the Blue Knights in points with eight goals and three assists (19 points). Shope and Warnement were the anchors of the Blue Knight defense. Warnement also scored two goals and had three assists, while Shope had two assists.

URBANA, Ohio (November 28, 2005) – Urbana University junior goalkeeper Liz Markley (Cedarville, Ohio/Greenon HS) was recently named 1st Team All-Region IX. Markley had a 1.65 GAA and totaled 124 saves in 18 games where she logged 1,345 minutes. [more]

Blue Knights Nip Yellow Jackets
CEDARVILLE, Ohio (October 18, 2005) – The Blue Knight women’s soccer team improved to 8-9 overall and 3-4 in the American Mideast Conference with a 3-2 conference win over Cedarville University Tuesday night. Urbana University jumped to a 3-0 lead and held off a late Yellow Jackets’ rally. Junior Jessica Boy scored the first goal in the 13th minute on an assist from freshman Abigail Nelson. Freshman Carly Ramsdell scored just five minutes later to give Urbana a 2-0 lead until halftime. Junior Marge Warnement scored what would become the game winner 15 minutes into the second period. Cedarville scored goals in the 65th and 84th minutes. Junior Liz Markley tallied nine saves in goal for the Blue Knights. Urbana hosts Walsh University Saturday at 1 p.m. in a key AMC match.

Blue Knights Blank Huntington
URBANA, Ohio (October 15, 2005) – Sophomore Darby McCullough scored two goals to help Urbana University to a 4-0 win over visiting Huntington College, Ind. (5-8-1) Saturday in non-conference play. McCullough scored the first goal of the match just five minutes in on an assist from freshman Abigail Nelson. Junior Jessica Boy scored six minutes later on an assist from sophomore Brittany Webb to build a 2-0 lead at halftime. McCullough scored her second goal on an assist from Boy. Freshman Jessica Ellis scored the final goal for Urbana on an assist from junior Marge Warnement and Webb. Junior Liz Markley had six saves in goal for Urbana. The Blue Knights (7-9) play at Cedarville Tuesday at 7 p.m. in an American Mideast Conference match.

Second Half Troubles For Urbana Soccer
NORTH CANTON, Ohio (October 8, 2005) – The Blue Knight women’s soccer team held Malone College to one goal in the first half, but the Pioneers (7-4-3 overall, 2-1-1 AMC) put away four goals in the second half to take a 5-1 American Mideast Conference victory. Sophomore Julie Glaser scored Urbana’s lone goal on an assist from junior Marge Warnement. Urbana (6-9 overall, 2-4 AMC) hosts Huntington College, Ind. this Saturday at 1 p.m. in a non-conference match.

Dragons Burn Blue Knights 4-1
URBANA, Ohio (Oct. 5, 2005) – The Blue Knight women’s soccer team lost to nationally ranked Tiffin University, 4-1, Wednesday in an American Mideast Conference match. Urbana put up a good fight with the scored tied 1-1 at halftime. Tiffin (9-2 overall, 4-0 AMC) had 18 shots to Urbana’s four. Darby McCullough scored the Blue Knights’ lone goal on an assist from Jessica Boy to tie the game with 20:20 left to play in the first half. Liz Marley had nine saves in goal for Urbana, now 6-8 overall and 2-3 in the AMC. Urbana plays at Malone this Saturday at 1 p.m. in an AMC contest.

URBANA, Ohio (Oct. 1, 2005) – The Urbana University women’s soccer team shut out Shawnee State University, 2-0 this Saturday in an American Mideast Conference match. Sophomore Darby McCullough put away both the goals for the Blue Knights, who led 1-0 at halftime. Freshman Alysha Spence and sophomore Julie Glaser each notched an assist. Junior goalkeeper Liz Markley had three saves for Urbana (6-7 overall, 2-2 AMC). The Blue Knights host Tiffin Wednesday at 5 p.m.

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio (September 28, 2005) – The Urbana University women’s soccer team lost, 2-0 to Mount Vernon Nazarene in an American Mideast Conference match. Urbana goalkeeper Liz Markley had 14 saves in the defeat. Urbana’s record drops to 5-7 overall and 1-2 in the AMC. The Lady Cougars improve to 7-3 overall and 2-0 in the conference. COLUMBUS, Ohio (Sept. 21, 2005) -- The Blue Knight women's soccer team lost 3-0 to Ohio Dominican University in an American Mideast Conference match Wednesday. Junior Liz Markley had 11 saves in goal for Urbana, 5-6 overall and 1-1 in the AMC. Freshman Samantha Arnett had 8 saves for the Blue Knights. Urbana plays at Mount Vernon next Wednesday at 5 p.m. in a conference match up.

LATROBE, Pa. (Sept. 19, 2005) – The Blue Knight women’s soccer team lost, 4-1, to St. Vincent College Monday night in a conference cross over match.

Freshman Abigail Nelson scored Urbana’s only goal on an assist from freshman Alysha Spence. Junior goalkeeper Liz Markley had 12 saves.

Urbana Falls to Nationally Ranked Griffins
URBANA, Ohio (Sept. 11, 2005) – The Blue Knight women’s soccer team, just back from Pennsylvania and a hard fought 3-1 loss to Geneva Saturday, battled hard against nationally ranked Seton Hill Sunday. Urbana held the Griffins off the entire first half, but Seton Hill struck twice in the second half for the 2-0 victory. Junior goalkeeper Liz Markley had 14 saves for Urbana (4-3). Seton Hill, ranked 33rd in the nation, improves to 5-0.

Geneva Bests the Blue Knights
BEAVER FALLS, Pa. (Sept. 10, 2005) – Jessica Boy scored the only goal for Urbana University Saturday in a 3-1 loss to Geneva College.

Boy’s score came on a penalty kick. Liz Markley had 7 saves in goal for Urbana (4-2, 1-0 AMC). Geneva improves its record to 2-3-1.

Markley Named AMC Defensive Player of the Week
Urbana goalkeeper Liz Markley was named the American Mideast Conference Defensive Player of the Week. Markley, a 5-5 junior, allowed one goal in 270 minutes of action for a 0.33 goals against average and two shutouts in Urbana's 2-1 week. She made 12 saves in a 1-0 setback to Indiana Wesleyan, who received votes in the NAIA preseason poll. Markley had one save in a 2-0 AMC South Division win over Rio Grande and made four saves in a 1-0 decision versus Daemen.

Nelson Finds Back of the Net Twice in AMC Win
URBANA, Ohio (September 3, 2005) – Freshman Abigail Nelson scored two goals in Urbana’s 2-0 win over first-year program Rio Grande Saturday.

The Lady Knights had 21 shots to Rio’s 1 shot. Nelson put away two goals on assists from Sarah Shope, a junior, and Darby McCullough, a sophomore. Urbana improves to 3-1 this season. Rio is 0-1 after playing the first women’s soccer game in school history. The Blue Knights host Daemen College, NY Sunday at 1 p.m.

Markley Notches 12 Saves; Wildcats Slip One Past
URBANA, Ohio (August 31, 2005) – Urbana University junior goalkeeper Liz Markley had 12 saves in a 1-0 loss to nationally ranked Indiana Wesleyan. The Wildcats, ranked 27th in the nation in the NAIA Women’s Soccer Preseason Poll, hit a torrent of shots on net and Markley stopped nearly everything that came her way.

Indiana Wesleyan scored the only goal of the match Rachel Gerdin’s strike directly under the cross bar.

The Blue Knight record is now 2-1, while IWU’s improves to 1-0. Urbana hosts the University of Rio Grande in their American Mideast Conference opener this Saturday at 1 p.m.

Blue Knight Women's Soccer Posts Second Shutout
PEPPER PIKE, Ohio (August 27, 2005) -- The Urbana University women's soccer team posted its second shutout in as many matches. The Blue Knights blanked Ursuline College, 3-0, to improve to 2-0 on the season.

Jessica Boy, Marge Warnament and Darby McCullough each scored a goal. Abigail Nelson notched two assists. Liz Markley had her second shutout in goal with seven saves.

Urbana hosts Indiana Wesleyan this Wednesday in their home opener at 5 p.m.

Blue Knight Frosh Scores Game Winner
SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio (August 26, 2005) – The Blue Knight women’s soccer team picked up a 1-0 win in its season opener at Notre Dame College (OH), Friday night.

Freshman Alysha Spence (Logan, Ohio) scored the lone goal of the match in the opening minute of the second half.

Notre Dame drops to 0-1, while Urbana improves to 1-0 on the young season. The Blue Knights play at Ursuline College this Saturday at 1 p.m.

Wendling Named Chair of NAIA Region IX Women’s Soccer
URBANA, Ohio (April 25, 2005) – Urbana University men’s and women’s soccer coach Jim Wendling was named the NAIA Region IX Women’s Soccer Sports Chair, announced Region IX Chair Skip Lord.

The coaches of Region IX conducted a vote and selected Wendling – who has coached both the Blue Knight men’s and women’s soccer teams for seven years – to assume the responsibilities as the new Region IX Chair. Wendling, of Huber Heights, will fill the position vacated by Houghton College’s David Lewis.

“We welcome Jim and know he will do a good job,” said Lord. “We look forward to his leadership and participation.”
