Kenton Ridge MVP Signs with Urbana Women’s Golf
SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (November 10, 2005) – Urbana University women’s golf coach Jacque Howell is pleased to announce Julie Stratton (pictured left, seated in the center), a senior at Kenton Ridge High School, signed with the Blue Knights. Stratton is a three-year varsity letter winner at Kenton Ridge for Coach John Baugh whose Cougars went 17-6 this year. Stratton was named the Clark County Golfer of the Year, plus earned 1 st Team All-County honors. She is a two-time 1 st Team All-County selection and a two-time MVP for the Cougars. Stratton earned all-tournament honors at the Shawnee Invitational this season. As a junior, she was also named 1 st Team All-Area.

“Julie is a hard worker and never gives up,” said Baugh. “I’ve been blessed to coach her for the past three years. Every year I saw improvement due to her hard work. She will be a huge asset to Urbana University. We will miss her team leadership and great attitude.”

Stratton is pleased to sign with the Blue Knights early.

“I have my future set,” she said. “Now I can go out and concentrate on golf. Playing golf at the collegiate level was important in my decision. It’s my therapy and it’s such a fun sport. I know there are parts of my game I need to work on, and I’m excited to have the opportunity to work with Coach Howell and the rest of the girls on the team.”

Stratton is the fifth woman to ever sign with the Blue Knight golf team, which enjoyed its inaugural season in 2005.

“Julie will have a huge impact on the team. Adding Julie will ease the pressure on the other girls, but she will also add a new level of competition between the girls.

“I saw Julie play at the Shawnee Invitational and I was struck by her length off the tee,” added Howell. “That strength will help her when she has to move back. She needs to work on her short game and she recognizes that. The integrity of the game is very important to her. She is very studious of the game.”

Julie is the daughter of Mike and Jo Ann Stratton of Springfield, Ohio. She intends to major in Physical Therapy at Urbana University.
