Urbana Women’s Golf Wins Blue Knight Fall Classic
Cami Anthony earns all-tournament honors

URBANA, Ohio (September 24, 2007) – The Urbana women’s golf team defended its turf at the Urbana Country Club, finishing first out of seven teams at the Blue Knight Fall Classic. The Blue Knights shot a team score of 380, edging Walsh by four strokes.

“I was really pleased with the way the girls played. They worked really hard,” said Urbana head coach Jacque Howell. “We had no single star but each girl was consistent from our first player through our fourth.”

Junior Cami Anthony (Miamisburg, Ohio) led Urbana, carding a 93 and tying for fifth, on the extremely difficult course at the Urbana Country Club.

“This course was very difficult,” said Howell. “It’s a real test of chipping and putting and we are coming along in those areas.”

Sophomore Cortney Ertel (Woodstock, Ohio) was right on her heels with a 94. Sophomore Jenna Swihart (Waynesburg, Ohio) shot a 96 and junior Shelby Buck (South Charleston, Ohio) had a 97.

“In just three years time to make this much progress and win our own tournament is such an accomplishment,” said Howell. “The girls are very excited.”

Walsh’s Tammy Schumacher won the event with an 86. She paced her team to a 384, three strokes ahead of third-place Malone College (387) and four ahead of Ohio Dominican (388). Muskingum College had a team score of 410, Urbana’s B team had a 425, paced by freshman Julie Stratton’s (Springfield, Ohio) 97 and junior Becky Rutan’s (Mechanicsburg, Ohio) 98.

Urbana will play in the American Mideast Conference Preview Invitational this Friday, Sept. 28 at the Sanctuary Golf Club in Canton, Ohio.
