Rutan Signs with Blue Knight Golf

URBANA, Ohio (July 12, 2005) – Mechanicsburg graduate Rebecca Rutan (seated center) is Urbana University’s latest women’s golf recruit. Blue Knight Coach Jacque Howell is pleased to announce Rutan was offered an athletic scholarship and signed her letter of intent today, committing to Urbana. Rutan will be a part of the inaugural Blue Knight women’s golf team that will begin competing this fall.

Rutan, a three-sport athlete at Mechanicsburg, played competitive golf for the first time her senior year. She was a standout in basketball and softball, earning Player of the Week and All-League honors in the latter. She played volleyball for two seasons, before taking up golf her senior season for Coach Jo Ann Baker-Marks.

“I am mesmerized by Becky’s mental toughness, being new to the sport and adapting so well,” said Howell. “It’s a testament to her tremendous athletic ability. She has so much potential to succeed in golf at the collegiate level.”

Rutan, who intends to major in accounting at Urbana University, is the daughter of Roger Rutan Jr. and Christie Taylor, both of Mechanicsburg.
