Urbana Runners-Up at AMC Championships
Ertel earns second team honors; Anthony named Scholar Athlete
NORTH CANTON, Ohio (May 6, 2008) – The Blue Knight women’s golf team were runners-up at the American Mideast Conference/Region IX Tournament held at the Sanctuary Golf Club Tuesday. Urbana finished second of seven teams.
Urbana University trailed the champions, Malone College, by just three strokes after day one on Monday. The Pioneers pulled away by shooting a 351 in the final round. Urbana shot a two-day total of 742, edging out Ohio Dominican (744) for second place.
Sophomore Cortney Ertel had a two-day total of 180 (88-92), earning second team all-AMC honors. Junior Cami Anthony, who was also named second team all-AMC, as well as to the AMC Scholar Athlete Team, carded a 185 (93-92). Junior Shelby Buck shot a 188 after a first-round score of 96 and a final-round of 92. Junior Becky Rutan had a score of 189 with two consistent rounds of 95 and 94. Sophomore Jenna Swihart shot a 202 (104-98).
By winning the American Mideast Conference/NAIA Region IX Women’s Golf Championship, Malone advances to the NAIA Championships, May-20-23 in San Diego, Calif. (Lake San Marcos Country Club). Walsh’s Tammy Schumacher captured medalist honors by shooting a 165 and will also participate at the national championships.
