Urbana women's golfers are second after day one
NORTH CANTON, Ohio (May 5, 2008) – The Blue Knight women's golf team is in second place after their first round at the American Mideast Conference/NAIA Region IX Tournament at the Sanctuary Golf Club. Urbana turned in a team score of 372, just three strokes back of the leaders, Malone College who posted a 369. Sophomore Cortney Ertel paced Urbana with a day-one round of 88. Junior Cami Anthony carded a 93. Juniors Becky Rutan and Shelby Buck shot 95 and 96, respectively. Sophomore Jenna Swihart had a 104. The final round will be played Tuesday, May 6 at the Sanctuary Golf Club.

FRANKLIN, Ind. (April 19, 2008) – The Blue Knight women’s golf team placed fifth out of eight teams in the Franklin College Lady Grizzly Spring Invitational at the Legends of Indiana Golf Course on Sunday. The Blue Knights had a team score of 379, the team’s best score this spring. They were led by junior Rebecca Rutan (pictured left), who posted a personal best with a score of 90. Sophomore Cortney Ertel was right behind her with a 93. Junior Cami Anthony had a score of 96, and Shelby Buck, a score of 100. Sophomore Jenna Swihart rounded out the Blue Knights with a score of 103. The University of Indianapolis placed first with a team score of 314 while Franklin came in second with a 352. The Blue Knights will be competing in the American Mideast Conference Championship on May 4 at the Sanctuary Golf Club in Canton, Ohio.

Blue Knights 7th of 15 Teams at Wittenberg Invite
Cortney Ertel Shoots 88 to lead Urbana
SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (April 15, 2008) – The Blue Knight women’s golf team placed 7th out of 15 teams at the Wittenberg Spring Invitational at Windy Knoll Golf Club Tuesday. Urbana had a team score of 390 and was paced by sophomore Cortney Ertel, who tied for seventh with her round of 43-45-88. Juniors Cami Anthony (45-53) and Becky Rutan (48-50) both shot 98s. Freshman Julie Stratton carded a 51-55-106 and junior Kendra Billenstein had a 54-61-115 to round out the Blue Knight squad. Otterbein College won the invitational with a team score of 329 and was led by medalist Catherine Brunoehler’s 39-40-79. Blue Knights 8th at USF
Urbana 8th of 12 on day one; weather conditions halt day two
FT. WAYNE, Ind. (April 12 , 2008) – The Blue Knight women's golf team shot a 403 and were in eighth place after day one at the St. Francis Cougar Invite at Noble Hawk Country Club Saturday. Urbana withdrew from the tournament on Sunday due to course and weather conditions. Cami Anthony led Urbana with a 96. Cortney Ertel carded a 99, while Shelby Buck shot a 102; Kendra Billenstein a 106; and Becky Rutan a 109. Bethel College, Ind. won the invitational with a team score of 665 and Marian College's Angela Gauck was medalist after shooting a 73-74-147. Urbana Finishes in Top 10 at Capital Invite

LOCKBOURNE, Ohio (April 5, 2008) -- The Blue Knight women's golf team took 13 strokes off their opening round score and finished with a 410-397-807 at the Purple and White Capital University Women's Golf Invitational at the Foxfire Golf Club. Otterbein won the event with a 334-328-662, edging out DePauw which shot a 333-336-669. DePauw's Nicole Garza was medalist after shooting back-to-back 81s for a total of 162. Sophomore Cortney Ertel paced Urbana with a 94-92-186 to finish in 30th place. Junior Shelby Buck had a 96-96-192. Becky Rutan was Urbana's third-best finisher with a 109-105-214. Cortney Ertel paces Urbana with 94 at Capital Invite
LOCKBOURNE, Ohio (April 4, 2008) -- The Blue Knight women's golf team opened the 2008 spring season with 18 holes in the first round of the Purple and White Capital Invitational at the Foxfire Golf Club. Urbana (410) is currently ninth out of 17 teams. Sophomore Cortney Ertel led the team in the opening round with a 94 (47-47), and is tied for 30th. Junior Shelby Buck shot a 42 on the front nine and closed out with 54 for a 96, which ties her for 34th. Junior Becky Rutan shot a 54-55 for 109 and junior Cami Anthony is right behind her with a 60-51-111. Sophomore Jenna Swihart rounds out the team effort with a 55-58-113. DePauw University is the leader after day one, tallying a 333. Otterbein is just a stroke back of the leaders with 334 and are paced by Natalie King's 39-41-80, which was the best score of the day.

Golfers Break School Record
Blue Knights shoot a 359 in first round of ODU Classic
COLUMBUS – The Blue Knight women’s golf team closed out the 2007 fall season on a positive note, shooting a school record team score of 359 in the first round at the Ohio Dominican University Classic. The old record was 365 which Urbana shot in the second round for a two-day total of 724, another Blue Knight record.

Sophomore Cortney Ertel placed 11th in the tournament with rounds of 83 and 87 for a 170. Junior Cami Anthony shot a personal best of 87 on the first day. She had a 91 in the second round for a two-day total of 178. Junior Becky Rutan shot a 94-94—188, sophomore Jenna Swihart carded a 97-93—190 and junior Shelby Buck had a 95-100—195.

Nationally ranked Bethel College won the event with a blazing 619 team score. Bethel’s Shanna Page won medalist honors with a 141.

CANTON, Ohio (Sept. 28, 2007) – Sophomore Cortney Ertel paced the Blue Knights to a second place finish at the American Mideast Conference Preview Tournament held at the Sanctuary Golf Club. Ertel shot an 86. Junior Cami Anthony shot a 95; junior Shelby Buck carded a 99; sophomore Jenna Swihart scored a 103 and junior Becky Rutan shot a 104. Urbana is back in action this Friday and Saturday (Oct. 5-6) when they play at the Ohio Dominican Classic at Cumberland Trails Golf Club. Urbana Finishes 5th at ONU Tourney
LIMA, Ohio (Sept. 23, 2007) –The Blue Knights took fifth place at a tough Ohio Northern University Tournament at Lost Creek Country Club. Urbana posted a 382, finishing behind Ohio Northern (356), ONU's B team (360), St. Francis (364) and Siena Heights (365). Sophomore Cortney Ertel finished in the top 10 with a score of 90. Junior Cami Anthony had a 91, junior Shelby Buck a 100, Jenna Swihart a 101, and Kendra Billenstein a 112. [Stats]

Head Coach Jacquelyn Howell sees promise in this year’s squad. Blue Knight Golf Scramble a Driving Success
URBANA , Ohio (July 20, 2007) – The Urbana University’s annual golf scramble to benefit the women’s and men’s golf team took place at Woodland Golf Club in Cable, Ohio. The format was a four-person, best-ball scramble, with the funds being raised contributing to both the women’s and men’s golf team, and a portion going to the general athletic fund for Urbana University’s Department of Athletics. Blue Knights Garner NAIA Academic Honors

Women’s basketball and women’s golf teams recognized
URBANA , Ohio – The Urbana University women’s basketball and women’s golf teams were honored by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) as 2006-07 NAIA Scholar Teams. The criterion for earning the award is at least a 3.0 team grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) during 2006-07 academic year. [more]

Urbana Adds Another Golfer to 2007 Roster

URBANA, Oh (May 7, 2007)-- Urbana University head women's golf coach Jacquelyn Howell is proud to announce the signing of Kate Smart of Bellefontaine High School. Smart was a three-year varsity letter winner at her high school, playing for Coach Richard Kurtz, where she earned multiple awards. Her freshman year she was named Most Spirited and she followed that her sophomore year with the Pursuit of Excellence award. Her junior year she had the lowest 18 hole score and the lowest average as a senior and was named medalist. She is the daughter or Harold and DayeAnn Smart of Bellefountaine.

URBANA, Oh (April 2, 2007)-- The Urbana University women's golf team placed 5th in the 2007 Ohio Cup hosted by Ohio Northern University. URBANA, Oh (March 23, 2007)—Urbana University Head women’s golf coach Jaquelyn Howell is proud to announce the addition of Greenon High School senior Julianne Howell to her 2007-2008 roster. Howell, who played at Greenon for Coach Jared Shore, was named a First Team All-Central Buckeye Conference and All-County performer. She was awarded the Coach’s Award at Greenon where she holds the school record for 9 holes with a 40 and 18 holes with an 84. Julianne is the daughter of Denny and Jeanine Howell of Enon.
Knights Ink First Recruit for 2007-08
Rupley Sign
URBANA, Oh (March 5, 2007)-- Urbana University Head women's golf coach Jacquelyn Howell is proud to announce Whitmer High School senior Katie Rupley has signed a letter of intent to compete in the women's golf program next year at Urbana University. Rupley, of Toledo, plans in majoring in business at Urbana. While at Whitmer where she was named co-captain, Rupley played for coach Cindy Palmer. Rupley was named a 2nd team All-City selections as well as Honorable Mention All-District with a 48 stroke average. She was also a medalist at the Ottawa Park match. She is an honors student at Whitmer and is involved not only in golf but in National Honor Society, Science Club, Math Honorary Club, French Club and is a volunteer at Flower Hospital. When asked why she chose Urbana to continue her education and golf career, Rupley stated that she "liked the atmosphere of small classes and the one-on-one attention." She is the daughter of Edward and Joyce Rupley.

CHESTERLAND, Oh (Oct. 16, 2006) -- The Urbana University Blue Knights golf team finished in a tie for fourth place in the American Mideast Conference golf tournament held at the Berkshire Country Club in Chesterland, Ohio. The team shot a 378, an improvement over last years 406 mark, to finish just three strokes out of third place. Shelby Buck was named to the 2nd team All-AMC with her score of 90. Ertel Named All-tourney While Cook Gets Hole-in-One
COLUMBUS,Oh (Sept. 30, 2006) -- Urbana's women's golf team placed second with a team best 386 at the Ohio Dominican golf tournament over the weekend. Freshman Courtney Ertel (Woodstock/Triad HS) led the team shooting a 92 the first day and an 82 the second. URBANA, Ohio (March 17, 2006) - The Annual Urbana University Blue Knight Golf Scramble will be held Friday, July 21 with a 10 a.m. shotgun start at Woodland Golf Course. The cost is $75 per person. The entry fee is $70 if received by July 1. The cost for a four-team entry is $300. Highlights of the event include: a 50/50 drawing, a skins game, dinner, closest to the pin contest, longest drive contest, win a car hole-in-one contest and a silent auction. Standout Golfer Signs with Urbana

Anthony & Billenstein, Co-Women Golfers of the Year
Urbana University freshmen Camille Anthony and Kendra Billenstein are the first recipients of an award initiated by a woman, who chooses to remain anonymous, given in memory of Jared W. Howell – who passed away in June 2005 – and in honor of Urbana University women’s golf coach Jacquelyn R. Howell. The award recipient is chosen by the Urbana coach and presented to the Blue Knight Woman Golfer of the Year.

“Jared was a large influence on my philosophy of teaching,” said Howell. “No one would be turned away from trying but all would be expected to work hard and strive to reach their full potential.”

The trophy reads, “Life’s trials and tribulations are opportunities to excel.” Anthony of Miamisburg, Ohio and Billenstein of Greenville, Ohio each received a smaller replica of the permanent trophy that will be displayed in the Grimes Center trophy case. Their silver bowl reads, “She gives nothing who gives not of herself.”
“I’ve never gotten an award like this. All the hard work has paid off,” said Anthony. “We set the standard for years to come and established what we need to do as a team next year.”These two golfers were the most conscientious and hard working young golfers. They were dependable and were eager to do anything asked of them; from being tour guides and making calls to potential recruits.“This award goes beyond golf. It represents the extra things we did,” said Billenstein. “I have a lot more confidence after this season and after a summer of practice hope to compete with the best.”

Urbana Golfers Take 7th at Muskingum
MUSKINGUM, Ohio (April 19, 2006) – The Blue Knight women’s golf team placed seventh, out of ten teams, at the Muskingum Spring Invitational. Urbana University shot a team score of 412, beating out Wittenberg (413), John Carroll (421) and Mount Union (453). Otterbein won the tournament with a 351. For Urbana, Shelby Buck and Camille Anthony both carded 98s. Kendra Billenstein shot a 103 and Becky Rutan rounded out the group with a 113.

Sandy Valley Standout Signs with Blue Knights

MAGNOLIA, Ohio (January 5, 2006) – Urbana University women’s golf signed its newest addition today at Sandy Valley High School. Senior Jenna Swihart, a two-sport standout at SVHS, was offered an athletic scholarship to play golf for the Blue Knights. Blue Knight Golfers Close Regular Season
TIFFIN, Ohio (October 10, 2005) – The Blue Knight women’s golf team finished 11th out of 12 teams at the Tiffin University 2005 Lady Dragons Invitational Monday at the Mohawk Country Club. The Blue Knights had a team score of 424. Kendra Billenstein paced Urbana with a 98. Cami Anthony shot a 101. Shelby Buck put up a 108 and Becky Rutan had a 117. The University of Findlay won the event with a 334. This tournament was the last of the regular season for the Urbana women golfers. They will play in the American Mideast Conference championships Monday, Oct. 17 at Notre Dame College.

NORTH CANTON, Ohio (Oct. 4, 2005) – The Blue Knight women’s golf team finished 5th – out of six teams – at the Walsh University Invitational held this Monday and Tuesday at the Sanctuary Golf Club. Urbana University put up a two-day team score of 857. Shelby Buck led Urbana with a 103-102-205. Cami Anthony finished with a 105-104-209. Kendra Billenstein carded a 108-109-217; and Becky Rutan shot a 117-109-226. Tiffin won the team event with a 349-345-694. Trevecca Nazarene was second with a 349-352-701; Walsh was third with a 360-344-704; Malone posted a 390-380-770; and Ohio Dominican rounded out the six teams with a 442-432-874. Urbana will compete at the Seton Hill Invitational this Saturday at the Ligonier Country Club in Greensburg, Pa.

Urbana had a team score of 424-417-841, edging out ODU’s team score of 843. Seton Hill won the event with a two-day team score of 721. Camille Anthony led the Blue Knights with a 95-107-202. Shelby Buck shot a 108-100-208. Kendra Billenstein carded a 104-110-214; and Rebecca Rutan shot a 112-116-228.

The Urbana University women’s golf team placed fifth – out of five teams – at the 1st Annual Blue Knight Fall Classic. In the first ever Urbana round of women’s golf, the Blue Knights shot a team score of 433. Shelby Buck led Urbana with a 100. Cami Anthony shot a 107; Kendra Billenstein a 110; and Becky Rutan a 116. Tiffin University won the event with a 350. Tiffin’s Kelly Rethman was medalist with a round of 82. Urbana plays at the Ohio Dominican Invitational Sept. 30-Oct. 1 at the Cumberland Trail Golf Club.

Women's Golf Program to Be Established
Urbana University has announced the hiring of Jacquelyn Howell, of Urbana, as the women’s golf coach to help usher in the new sport for the Blue Knights. In Urbana’s 154 year history there has never been a women’s golf program. The last sport Urbana added in athletics was women’s soccer in 1999. [more]
