Phillips to Head National FCA Camp
URBANA, Ohio (June 22, 2007) – Rob Phillips, Urbana University head women’s basketball coach, will serve in the same capacity at a Fellowship of Christian Athletes camp this summer, June 25-29, at the University of Findlay.
Fellowship of Christian Athletes is an international, Christian-based organization. FCA has a presence on nearly 7,000 high school and college campuses in the U.S. FCA Camps are a time for athletes and coaches to reach their potential by offering comprehensive athletic, spiritual and leadership training.
The camp at the University of Findlay is one of many all-sports camps held across the United States this summer. In all, over 30,000 athletes will attend an FCA camp this summer.
Phillips will serve as the head basketball coach for the camp held at the University of Findlay. He will be in charge of the women’s basketball coaching staff and all on-court instruction and competition.
“I am very happy to have been afforded the opportunity to work with FCA in this capacity. FCA does a phenomenal job in reaching out to student-athletes throughout the country, and now internationally as well,” said Phillips. “Countless athletes have been touched by FCA, whether through camps, campus study groups (huddles) or by other athletes who have been impacted in a positive way by FCA.”
Phillips, along with assistant coach Trey Huntsman, established an FCA huddle at Urbana University last year.
“Trey did an awesome job of facilitating meetings that were attended by a number of our student-athletes from various teams. I hope we will be able to sustain and expand this activity next year,” said Phillips. “Organizations like FCA and Athletes in Action have been very important to me for several years. It’s great for me to be involved and I look forward to a challenging week athletically and spiritually.”
Phillips, a native of Givens, Ohio, also coached an Athletes in Action U.S. team in 2005 that traveled to East Asia. Phillips has been the head coach at Urbana University for 13 seasons.
