Blue Knights Fall To No. 22 Rio In AMC Tourney
RIO GRANDE, Ohio (Feb. 27, 2008)—The Urbana University women’s basketball team fell in the first round of American Mideast conference play as the No. 22 NAIA University of Rio Grande downed the Blue Knights, 52-68.

Urbana got a slow start in the first half, only scoring 18 points but allowing Rio to post 31.  The Blue Knights only shot 28 percent from the field and couldn’t connect on any three-point attempts. They also only connected on one attempt from behind the arc in the second half. Rio Grande shot 47 percent from the same spot, connecting on eight for the game.

The Blue Knights played even with the Redwomen most of the second half but the first half deficit was too much to overcome.

Freshman Jessica Byrd led Urbana with 14 points. Senior Haley Fannon added 11 in her last game and junior Tia Simms added 10 points and seven rebounds.

URG saw two players post double-doubles as Jasmine Richardson had 15 points and 10 rebounds and Erin Kume added 13 points and 11 rebounds.

The Blue Knights end the season at 16-11 overall and finished 3rd in the AMC as Shawnee State took the #1 spot with Rio and Ohio Dominican tying for the 2nd spot.

The game was the last for Blue Knights seniors Fannon, Megan Mummey, Valerie Feldmeyer, and Brittany Granger.
