Urbana Picks Up Non-Conference Win over UNOH
URBANA, Ohio (Jan. 20, 2008)—The Urbana University women’s basketball team added another mark to the win column as they defeated visiting University of Northwestern Ohio, 72-51.
The Blue Knights pulled out to an early lead behind Enisia Curry’s eight points in the first eight minutes but the Racers fought tough and with a jumper by Stacey Feathers with a second left in the first; they closed the gap 31-30 heading into the locker room.
Urbana turned it up in the second half behind a 12-point second half effort from Sarah Branham. The Blue Knights pulled away and never looked back taking the game 72-51.
Urbana saw four players reach double figures led by Branham with 16 points. Jessica Byrd notched a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds, seven on the defense end. Byrd also dished out four assists and swiped four steals. Curry saw foul trouble early and posted 12 points and seven rebounds in only 14 minutes of play. Tia Simms added 11 points, six rebounds, and four assists. Mary Jo Weisenbarger pulled down eight rebounds.
The Racers were led by Erian Buckman with 14 points followed by Krissy Koester with 13. Abbie Clifton had a game-high 11 rebounds.
The Blue Knights will return to conference play at home on Saturday, Feb. 2 against the No. 20 University of Rio Grande Redwomen with tip-off set for 2 p.m.
