Blue Knights Fall Short of Upset;
Fall to No. 9 Bears 45-53

URBANA, Ohio (Jan. 29, 2008)—The Urbana University women’s basketball team came very close to another conference upset but fell short, 45-53, to the No. 9 Shawnee State Bears.

After going into the locker room at half time trailing the bears 16-23, the Blue Knights came out ready to play in the second half, taking the lead, 24-23, at the 17:00 minute mark. They held that lead, which stretched as far as five points, until Becky Babione connected on a three point goal with 6:59 left to play to pull the Bears ahead 42-41.

Urbana couldn’t find a way to get back ahead and Shawnee spent most of the remainder of the game at the foul line. Urbana was led by Enisia Curry with 10 points and six rebounds. Jessica Byrd added eight points and seven boards.

Shawnee State was led by Becky Babione with 15 points and nine rebounds followed by Karen Diehl with 10 points and seven rebounds. Kelly Wagner had a game-high 10 rebounds.

The Blue Knights will host the University of Northwestern Ohio in a non-conference match-up tomorrow, Jan. 30th, with tip-off scheduled for 7 p.m.. Urbana will return to conference play on Saturday as they host No. 20 Rio Grande at 2 p.m.
