Four Blue Knights Garner AMC Awards
URBANA, Ohio (March 10, 2008)—Four Blue Knight women’s basketball players were honored as the American Mideast Conference announced the all-AMC women’s basketball selections.
Junior transfer Tia Simms (Fremont, Ohio) was a second team selection as well as being named Newcomer of the Year, an award teammate Haley Fannon (St. Mary’s, Ohio) picked up just last season. Fannon was named to this year’s third team. Junior Enisia Curry (Mansfield, Ohio) and freshman Jessica Byrd (Cincinnati, Ohio) were given honorable mention honors. URBANA, Ohio (Feb. 26, 2008)—The Urbana University women’s basketball team will travel south to take on the University of Rio Grande Redwomen in the first round of the American Mideast Conference women’s basketball playoffs. The Blue Knights head into the tournament as the South Division’s No. 3 seed. They will face the South No. 2 seed Rio Grande. The Blue Knights are 16-10 overall while the Redwomen are 22-6. PORTSMOUTH, Ohio (Feb. 23, 2008)—The Urbana University women’s basketball team couldn’t find what they needed to upset the No. 8-ranked Shawnee State Bears as they fell, 76-68. AMHERST, New York (Jan. 4, 2008)—The Urbana University women’s basketball team traveled to Daemen College in New York for their first after game after the holiday break where they fell in only their third game of the season 58-70. The Wildcats jumped out to a 28-11 lead and never looked backed despite three Blue Knights finishing with double figures. Tia Simms and Haley Fannon led Urbana with 14 points each. Simms swiped seven steals and dished out four assists. Fannon also grabbed eight rebounds. The Blue Knights were led by Enisia Curry with 11 points and six rebounds while Jessica Byrd added 10. Tia Simms posted nine points and seven rebounds. Urbana will travel to Ursuline on Thursday with tip-off at 7 p.m. [stats]

LIMA, Ohio (Nov. 20, 2007)—The Urbana University women’s basketball team improved their record to 5-1 as the defeated host UNOH 64-51 in another non-conference match up. The Blue Knights were led by Haley Fannon with 18 points, five rebounds and three assists followed closely by Tia Simms with 17 points and five rebounds. URBANA, Oh (11-09-07)—The Urbana University women’s basketball started their season in the right direction as they defeated visiting Siena Heights University 80-57. The Blue Knights saw four players reach double figures led by freshman Jessica Byrd with 16. Byrd also had seven assists, five rebounds, two blocked shots, and two steals. Junior Tia Simms was a rebound short of a double-double as she had 15 points and nine rebounds along with four steals. The 2007-08 edition of Urbana University Women’s Basketball is a nice blend of returning veteran players, transfers with college experience and talented freshmen. As with any new team, it has taken us a while to get to know each other, but I can see chemistry starting to grow and by season’s start I think this will be a solid team. Urbana Signs Owens Standout Simms for 2008
URBANA, Oh (June 1, 2007)-- Head women's basketball coach Rob Phillips is proud to announce the signing of Tia Simms, of Fremont. Simms is a graduate of Fremont Ross High School and played the past two years at Owens Community College. While at Owens, Simms earned 1st team All-Conference in the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference and 1st team all-region. She averaged 13 ppg and eight rebounds. Coach Phillips had this to say about his new recruit. "Tia is an awesome player and we are truly excited about having her with us for the next two years. She is an outstanding offensive player and understands how to play the game."
Blue Knights Add Another to 2007-2008 Roster
URBANA, Oh (April 19, 2007)-- Head women's basketball caoch Rob Phillips is proud to announce the signing of Andrea Morrow, a 6-2 center transferring from Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW). Morrow did not play last year due to season-ending foot/ankle surgery. Morrow graduated from Van Wert High School after spending her freshman through junior years at Delphos High. She was a member of the varsity basketball squad all three years and was named All-Area and captain her sophomore and junior years. She also led Delphos in scoring and rebounding both years. At Van Wert her senior year Morrow was the captain of the squad. Morrow is the daughter of Mike and Diana Morrow. She has five siblings, Chris, Nikki, Alex, Erin and Allison. Morrow plans on majoring in business with a minor in political science while at Urbana.
Urbana Inks All-Ohio Special Mention Selection
URBANA, Oh (April 5, 2007)-- Urbana University Head women's basketball coach Rob Phillips is proud to announce the signing of Haley Ducey. Ducey played her high school basketball at Ottawa-Glandorf HighSchool in northwest Ohio. While at OGHS, Ducey was a three-year letterwinner and starter. In those three years, she helped lead her team to three Western Buckeye League championships as well as two regional tournament appearances. Ducey was a two-time All-WBL and NorthWest Ohio selection. In 2007, Ducey was named team captain and the best offensive preformer for her 12.4 ppg en route to an All-Ohio Special Mention selection.
Knights Sign Fort Ancient Valley POY
URBANA, Oh (March 27, 2007)-- Urbana University Head women's basketball coach Rob Phillips is proud to announce the signing of Jessica Byrd. Byrd, of Cincinnati, played at Northwest High School. Jessica was Player of the Year in the Fort Ancient Valley Conference Scarlet Division this past season and was also voted Most Valuable Player of her team. She was an Honorable Mention All-Southwest district selection and Second Team District 16 Coaches' Team. Jessica is a participant in the East-West District 16 Senior All-Star game. In 20 games her senior season, Byrd averaged 14.6 ppg while hauling in 6.7 rebounds and swiping 4.3 steals.
Riley Caps off Career with All-America Selection;
Becomes first Lady Hoop Star to win award
URBANA, Oh (March 14, 2007)-- Urbana University senior Sam Riley(Cincinnati) was named an Honorable Mention All-America selection when the NAIA released its All-America teams. Riley is the first Urbana women's basketball player to ever be recognized on the All-American level. Riley averaged 18.5 points per game for the Knights this year as well as 4.4 assists. She recorded a team high 84 steals. Riley was named a 1st team All-AMC selection as well. She is a three-time all-conference player since transferring from Northern Kentucky University. In her first season at Urbana, Riley was named Newcomer of the Year as well as a 1st team selection. Riley had 555 points on the year which is third best at Urbana. She finishes her career at Urbana with 1,488 points in her three years which puts her in 5th place in career scoring. Riley dished out 131 assists this season which ranks her third as well. Her 370 career assists place her second. Riley also ranks amongst the top ten in many other statistical categories.
Three Knights Earn AMC Honors
URBANA, Oh (March 2, 2007)-- Three Urbana University Blue Knights earned spots on the American Mideast Conference All-Conference teams when they were announced. Senior guard Sam Riley (Cincinnati, Oh) was honored as a 1st Team selection while fellow senior Brittany Runner (Bradford, Oh) earned a spot on the 3rd team. Junior transfer Haley Fannon (St. Mary's, Ohio) was named the conference Newcomer of the Year, an award given to a redshirt freshman or transfer in their first year at an AMC institution. Riley is a three-time All-AMC selection picking up 1st team honors in 2005 and was named Honorable Mention in 2006. Riley was awarded Newcomer of the Year in 2005 as well. Runner was named to the 3rd team for the second year in a row. |
