CEDARVILLE, Ohio (April 22, 2008) – The Blue Knight softball team split its American Mideast Conference doubleheader against Cedarville University Tuesday. The Yellow Jackets capitalized on errors in the first game to win, 5-3, and Urbana (16-13, 7-5 AMC) came on strong in the seventh inning to win game two, 4-3.
Cedarville took the early 1-0 lead after manufacturing a run in the bottom of the first inning. The Blue Knights finally got on the board in the fourth when freshman Danielle Finley crushed one out of the park over the left field fence. Urbana gained the lead in the fifth. Senior Erin Dowdell started off the inning with a triple. With two outs, Dowdell scored on a passed ball. Sophomore Brittany Heunen doubled and senior Jackie Masur singled to plate the go-ahead run. The Yellow Jackets answered with two runs in the fifth and sixth innings.
The Blue Knights played from behind the entire second game. The Yellow Jackets jumped to a 3-0 lead after two innings. Junior pitcher Katie Cramer came in relief and shut down the Cedarville offense. In 3 2/3 innings, she allowed no hits and no runs. The Blue Knight bats fired up and gave Cramer all the run support she needed.
