Blue Knight Bats Come Alive
Urbana picks up two victories in one-run games
KISSIMMEE, Fla. (March 4, 2008) – The Blue Knight softball team belted out 18 hits and improved to 4-2 after winning two one-run ballgames Tuesday at the Rebel Spring Games. Urbana started the morning with a 3-2 victory over St. Francis, Ill. (4-1), handing the Saints their first loss of the 2008 season. The victory was also redemption for the Blue Knights who suffered a 1-0 setback to USF just a day earlier. In the next game, Urbana topped Indiana Wesleyan, 4-3, in a thriller, plating the winning run in the top of the seventh inning.

Freshman Danielle Finley (Milford, Ohio) struck out four batters to pick up her first collegiate win for the Blue Knights. Urbana was down 1-0 after the first inning, but put up all it would need in the bottom of the fifth, pushing three runs across the plate. Senior Jackie Masur (Cincinnati) had a double against the Saints. The Blue Knights combined for eight hits, compared to just one on Monday.

Masur scored the game-winning run in the second game off a Tami Lasley (Union, Ohio) hit in the top of the seventh. The Blue Knight defense hung on in the bottom of the inning for the victory. Lasley also got the win on the mound to improve to 2-0 on the season. Junior Erica Schroeder (Huber Heights, Ohio) hit a homerun for Urbana, while junior Jessica Tuttle (South Vienna, Ohio) went 3-for-3. Masur and Katie Cramer (West Carrollton, Ohio) both had doubles for the Blue Knights. Cramer was also the starting pitcher.

The Blue Knights are off Wednesday, but continue action in the Rebel Spring Games Thursday March 6 at 1 p.m. vs. Dowling, NY and at 5 p.m. vs. Grand Valley State.
