Urbana Offense Stalls in Two Setbacks
KISSIMMEE, Fla. (March 3, 2008) – The Urbana University softball team dropped two games today at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Fla. The Blue Knights fell in morning games to Brewton-Parker, Ga., 4-1, and then to undefeated St. Francis, Ill., 1-0.
On the first day of the tournament, Urbana scored nine runs, but could only manage one run against Brewton-Parker and St. Francis combined. In game one, the Barons went up 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning. The Blue Knights tied it all up with a run in the third, but Brewton-Parker (15-8) exploded for three runs in the fourth. Both teams managed six hits each, but the Barons strung them together. Sophomore Jessie Swinderman took the loss for Urbana on the mound.
In game two of the second day, the Blue Knights managed just one hit against St. Francis (4-0). The Saints sent in the game-winning run in the bottom of the sixth. Freshman Ashley Meyer was the losing pitcher for the Blue Knights.
The Blue Knights will get a chance to hand St. Francis its first loss when they take on the Saints on Tuesday, March 4 at 9 a.m. Urbana follows that with an 11 a.m. game against Indiana Wesleyan.
