Blue Knights Earn Votes in Preseason Poll
URBANA, Ohio (February 1, 2008) – The Urbana University softball team received votes in the 2008 NAIA Preseason Top 25 poll which was released today.
The 2007 American Mideast Conference South Division regular season champions, the Blue Knights received five votes in the first poll of the 2008 season. Urbana is the highest ranking AMC team in the poll. Fellow south division team, Ohio Dominican received one vote in the preseason poll.
Urbana finished the 2007 campaign with a 23-24 overall record and won the AMC South Division with a 10-4 mark. Eight starters return for the 2008 season from that championship team, including senior third baseman Jackie Masur, who led the Blue Knights with a .421 batting average, and senior second baseman Erin Dowdell – both all-AMC selections.
Nicole Pluger, heading into her fourth campaign for the Blue Knights, was named the 2007 AMC and Region IX Coach of the Year.
The Blue Knights open the 2008 season at the inaugural Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Fla. March 2-7 where they will play 10 games. Urbana’s home opener will be a double header on March 11 against Indiana Tech at 3 p.m.
