Urbana Earns AMC's Fair Play Award
Bertz and Tensing named all-AMC
URBANA, Ohio (October 30, 2007) – The Blue Knight men's soccer team is the recipient of the 2007 American Mideast Conference Fair Play Award. The award is annually presented to one AMC men’s soccer squad based on two areas of sportsmanship. First, teams are awarded points based on their total number of red and yellow cards accumulated throughout the regular season. Second, AMC coaches vote on the squads, ranking their level of sportsmanship during their respective contests.
"It is a nice compliment for the guys to win the award, as we move forward with the transition of the program it is this kind of attitude we will be looking to carry forward," said Urbana University first-year Head Men's Soccer Coach Jeremy Parkins.
In addition to the team award, junior defender Kyle Bertz (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota) and sophomore midfielder Joey Tensing (Cincinnati/Mt. Healthy) were named honorable mention all-AMC.
Bertz started all 17 games on defense for the Blue Knights.
"Kyle was one of our captains this year, leading by example on and off the field," said Parkins. "He brings a strong work ethic, desire to improve and a team-first attitude."
Tensing started every game at midfield and notched one assist.
"Joey is an opportunistic player who carries a technical ability to create chances," said Parkins.
