Urbana Puts Up Fight Against Rio
Redmen hold on for 3-1 AMC win
URBANA, Ohio (Sept. 29, 2007) – Urbana played a hard-fought match, but dropped a 3-1 decision against perennial power Rio Grande Saturday at Ellis Field in American Mideast Conference action
The Redmen struck first on a give-and-go play by Ederson Lopes and Milan Partenijevic, who finished for a score in the 19th minute. Rio took a 2-0 lead at the half.
Junior Will Daniels got Urbana (2-6-2, 0-2 AMC) within striking distance, scoring in the 62nd minute to pull Urbana within one. Junior Jacob Partin served up a perfect ball and Daniels struck a laser to the back of the net.
The Redmen (6-4-0, 2-0 AMC) scored on a penalty kick in the 74th minute.
Urbana plays next in a non-conference match up at Malone on Wednesday, Oct. 3 at 3 p.m.
