Blue Knights Win Season Opener Over Point Park
Snyder scores both goals in Urbana’s 2-1 victory
URBANA, Ohio (August 26, 2007) – The Blue Knights started off on the right foot for new head men’s soccer coach Jeremy Parkins. Urbana University scored two first-half goals and held on for the 2-1 win over Point Park University Sunday at Ellis Field in their season opener.

“The first 30 minutes we played well, but the rest of the game we let down a little,” said Parkins. “It’s nice to get the first win, but my main concern is the development of the team and getting the guys to play up for 90 minutes.”

Sophomore Jon Snyder put away both goals for the Blue Knights. The first he created all on his own, stealing the ball from his defender and lasering the ball past the keeper in the 20th minute of the contest. On the second goal – minutes before halftime – Joey Tensing sent a cross into the box and Snyder finished it to the back of the net for the game winner.

Ryan Michaels picked up the win in goal, allowing just one goal which came on a penalty kick. He finished with four saves. Urbana out shot the Pioneers (0-1), 25-10. The Blue Knights are on the road for their next four contests. They play at Grace College on Saturday, Sept. 1.
