
Roberts to Take Over Urbana Men's Soccer Program
URBANA, Ohio (April 25, 2008) – Nick Roberts, a native of Manchester, England, and a 1994 graduate of Mercyhurst College in Erie, Pa., was named Urbana University ’s new head men’s soccer coach. He has experience playing and coaching soccer at a multitude of levels.
" I am very happy to become the new men's coach at Urbana. I know the area and the school well and I am looking forward to the challenges ahead,” said Roberts. "It's been a fairly quick appointment and thanks to Doug Young and the University I have managed to meet the players and lay the ground work for my expectations to prepare the players for preseason training camp in August." Urbana's Guidera Earns All-Ohio Honors
URBANA, Ohio (March 5, 2008) – The Ohio Collegiate Soccer Association recently released its 2007 awards. Urbana University senior defender Nick Guidera (Lima, Ohio) earned second team all-Ohio Academic honors.
"This award shows the persistence and dedication that Nick has, not only as an athlete, but more importantly, as a student,” said Urbana University head men’s soccer coach Jeremy Parkins. “It is this type of attitude and expectation that we look to grow in the men's soccer program at Urbana, and one that will serve Nick well as he moves into his career."
Guidera, a middlehood child education major with an emphasis in math and science, played in 14 games and started eight for the Blue Knights in 2007. He won Urbana’s Top Scholastic Award after posting a 4.00 GPA.
2007 Blue Knight Men’s Soccer Review
Urbana University head men’s soccer coach Jeremy Parkins completed his first season at the helm of a collegiate program. Parkins brings an excitement and energy to the program and has a vision to make the Blue Knight soccer team a contender as Urbana transitions into NCAA D-II.

Five Blue Knights Named NAIA Scholar Athletes
URBANA , Ohio (November 27, 2007) – The 2007 Men’s and Women’s Soccer Daktronics NAIA Scholar Athlete Teams were recently released and five Urbana University student athletes were honored.
Blue Knight men’s soccer players Derek Ballas (Massillon, Ohio), Eric Miller (Grove City, Ohio) and Rick Schnipke (Kalida, Ohio), all seniors, were honored on the list. Seniors Dee Clemons (Piqua, Ohio) and Brittany Webb (Springfield, Ohio) represented the Urbana women’s soccer team as NAIA Scholar Athletes.
Urbana Earns AMC's Fair Play Award

URBANA, Ohio (October 30 , 2007) – The Blue Knight men's soccer team is the recipient of the 2007 American Mideast Conference Fair Play Award. The award is annually presented to one AMC men’s soccer squad based on two areas of sportsmanship. First, teams are awarded points based on their total number of red and yellow cards accumulated throughout the regular season. Second, AMC coaches vote on the squads, ranking their level of sportsmanship during their respective contests.

Urbana Closes out 2007 at NAIA No. 5 ODU
Panthers blank Blue Knights, 3-0
COLUMBUS (October 26, 2007) – Ohio Dominican demonstrated why it is the No. 5-ranked team in the NAIA, putting away three quick goals against Urbana enroute to a 3-0 win in American Mideast Conference action Friday at Panther Field. ODU (16-1, 5-1 AMC) scored in the 8th, 16th and 27th minutes. Senior Ryan Michaels had six saves in goal, while senior Derek Ballas had two saves and no goals against, in their final game as a Blue Knight. Seniors Nick Guidera, Eric Miller and Troy Smith also played their final match for Urbana.

ANDERSON, Ind. (Oct. 11, 2007) – Will Daniels scored both goals in Urbana’s 2-1 overtime win over Anderson University Thursday. Malone Stymies Blue Knights
Urbana falls 3-2 in non-conference battle
URBANA, Ohio (Oct. 3, 2007) – Urbana fell, 3-2, in a non-conference match Wednesday night at Malone College. Dan Gilmer and Jon Snyder each scored goals in the first half to equalize the match, but the Pioneers' Jason Nelson scored the go-ahead and game-winning goal in the 51st minute of the second half. Urbana is 2-7-2 after the loss. Malone improves to 4-7. The Blue Knights play another non-conference match at Berea, Ky. this Saturday at 4 p.m.

Blue Knights Shut Out by Lords
URBANA, Ohio (Sept. 25, 2007) – The Blue Knight men’s soccer team was dealt a tough 2-0 loss by Keynon College (8-1-0) Tuesday at Ellis Field. The Lords, ranked No. 7 in the NCAA D-III Great Lakes Regional, scored in the 43rd minute thanks to a bending shot by Nick Severyn, giving them a 1-0 lead at halftime. KC put away another goal by Tawanda Keseke late in the second period on a breakaway to give Kenyon its 2-0 lead. URBANA, Ohio (Sept. 19, 2007) – The Blue Knights suffered their first loss at home this season after falling, 1-0 in double overtime to Saint Francis (Ind.) Wednesday at Ellis Field. The game marks the fourth double overtime match the Blue Knights have played this season and their first loss in an overtime contest. USF's Ryan Crawford scored the golden goal in the 109th minute, on a breakaway steal. Ryan Michaels had six saves in goal for Urbana. GRACE, Ind. (September 1, 2007) – The Blue Knight men’s soccer team suffered its first loss of the season, a 2-1 setback to Grace College Saturday. Sophomore Adam Craddick put the Blue Knights on the scoreboard first, scoring on an assist from junior Jacob Partin. Grace (1-0) answered with two goals, scoring the game winner with just six minutes to play in the contest. Blue Knight Men Earn Scholastic Honor
URBANA, Oh (Feb. 5, 2007)-- The Urbana University men's soccer team was once again the recipient of the NSCAA (National Soccer Coaches Athletics Association) Academic Team Award by having a team average GPA of a 3.0 or higher. This is the third award for the men in four years.

URBANA (Nov. 20, 2006)-- Four Urbana men's soccer players picked up
All-America Scholar athlete honors for their work on the field and especially in the classroom. Senior Chris Hortsman (Seville) and juniors Eric Miller (Grove City), Derek Ballas (Massilion) and Rick Schnipke (Kalida) all recieved the honor. Hortsman, a Communication Arts major from Seville, Ohio, was previously named to the Second Team Academic All-American All-District team. Hortsman carries a 3.84 GPA.
Two Blue Knights earn All-AMC Honors
CEDARVILLE,Oh (Nov. 9, 2006)-- The Urbana University men’s soccer team’s season may be over but the awards are starting to roll in for their players. Senior forward Josh Baskin and sophomore defender Will Daniels were tabbed to the Second team All-AMC. Baskin, from Englewood, Ohio, has been a four year member of the All-AMC squad including a Freshman of the Year nod in 2003. Baskin scored 12 goals and had 12 assists this year for the Blue Knights who finished at 11-7. He ends his career 2nd All-time at Urbana University for goals in a career with 45. He was also recently named an All-District Academic All-American. Daniels, from Lake Orion, MI, is another second year selection as he was tabbed AMC Honorable Mention last year. Daniels booted two goals and two assists as a defender for the Blue Knights.
Post Season Honors Start to Roll in for Blue Knights
URBANA, Oh (Nov. 2, 2006)-- Senior Foward Josh Baskin and senior Midfielder Chris Hortsman were named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America All-District team. Baskin, a Psychology major from Englewood, Ohio, was named to the First team All-District for his performances on the field and in the classroom. Despite being a star on the field, Baskin carries a strong 3.39 GPA in the classroom. Hortsman, a Communication Arts major from Seville, Ohio, was named to the Second Team. Hortsman excels in the classroom with a 3.84 GPA.
Urbana Picks Up Victory over Bears
PORTSMOUTH, Oh (Oct. 24, 2006)-- The Blue Knight Men's soccer team picked up an AMC victory with a 4-0 win over Shawnee State. Urbana out shot the Bears 21-8. For the Knights, Jacob Parton scored on an assist by Jared Frasure in the 22nd minute. Josh Baskin then found the net for the first of two goals on an assist by Seth Thacker in the 29th minute. Baskin scored again in the 45th minute on an unassisted goal. Urbana scored one more time in the 75th minute as AJ Grove put the ball into the net off of a Rick Schnipke corner kick. Goalkeeper Ryan Michaels recorded four saves in the shutout. Urbana improves to 11-6 overall and 3-5 in the AMC.
Cougars edge by Blue Knights
MOUNT VERNON, Oh (Oct. 21, 2006)-- Urbana University men's soccer team came up short in a 1-0 loss to Mount Vernon Nazarene University. Urbana only took three shots on goal while MVNU had 9. Urbana goalie Ryan Michaels recorded eight saves in the loss. Urbana will play at Shawnee State Univeristy on Tuesday the 24th at 4 p.m..
Urbana Needs OT to Beat Malone
URBANA, Ohio (Oct. 14, 2006)-- After both teams held each other scoreless through regulation, Urbana got on the board to finish the game in the first minutes of OT as the ball was knocked around and Malone hit their own goal. For the Blue Knights, Ryan Michaels recorded six saves.
Undefeated Panthers Hold Knights Scoreless
URBANA, Ohio (Oct. 10, 2006)-- Despite an aggressive game, the Blue Knights fell to visiting Ohio Dominican University 2-0 at Ellis Field. The Panthers out shot Urbana 27-6. Urbana goalie Ryan Michaels recorded 16 saves in the contest.
#1 Ranked Redmen Hand Urbana Loss
RIO GRANDE, Ohio (Oct. 7, 2006)-- The Urbana University men's soccer team showed up ready to play at Evan Davis field as they took on #1 ranked NAIA Rio Grande but in the end fell to the Redmen 8-2. Rio scored in the 6th minute but Urbana (9-4, 1-3 AMC) tied the game in the 17th minute on a Jon Snyder goal with both Eric Miller and Josh Baskin credited with the assist. Rio then took back the lead but Urbana again came back to tie it up on a Matt Spirk header on a Tom Woodruff assist. With the score tied 2-2 at the half, Rio came out and scored 6 unanswered goals to seal the victory. Urbana goalie Ryan Michaels recorded 9 saves for the Blue Knights.

Baskin Scores Game Winner
URBANA, Ohio (Oct. 3, 2006)-- Senior Josh Baskin (pictured left) found the back of the net with mere minutes remaining to propel the Urbana men's soccer team over Cedarville 3-2. Urbana scored early on in the first period when Adam Green scored off of a corner kick by Jake Parton. Cedarville finally got on the board in the second period on a goal by Justin Benz. Cedarville scored again to take the lead when Grant Knight put a Ryan Lustig corner kick into the net. Sophomore Will Daniels tied it back up with seven minutes left in the game off of a Baskin assist. Both teams attacked the net until Baskin scored. Urbana goalie Ryan Michaels recorded 8 saves in the victory. Urbana now moves to 9-2 overall and 1-2 in the AMC.

Blue Knights Move to 7-0 With Win Over Beavers
BLUFFTON, Ohio (Sept. 13, 2006) -- The Blue Knight men's and women's soccer teams picked up victories in a double header against Bluffton College tonight. The Urbana men's team, riding a seven-game win streak, knocked off the Beavers, 2-1. Chris Toth and Will Daniels scored goals for the Blue Knights who out shot Bluffton, 19-7. Josh Baskin, the American Mideast Conference player of the week, created both assists. Micah Fisher had one save in goal for Urbana. Urbana hosts Pikeville College, Ky. this Saturday in a double header. The men's team plays the Bears at 3:30 p.m. and the women's game follows at 5:30 p.m.

Urbana forward Josh Baskin (Englewood, OH) has been named the AMC men's soccer Player of the Week. Baskin, a 6-foot-1 senior, tallied three goals and three assists to lead unbeaten Urbana to a 3-0 week including two wins in the Marian IN Classic. He scored once in a 3-1 victory over Taylor and registered two goals and three assists in a 5-1 win over previously undefeated Trinity Christian. Baskin was also tabbed the NAIA Region IX Player of the Week. Also considered for defensive player of the week was Urbana keeper Micah Fisher who made eight saves in three wins.
Urbana Wins Marian Soccer Classic
INDIANAPOLIS (Sept. 9, 2006) – Urbana University upped its record to 6-0 and won the Marian College Classic with a 3-1 victory over Illinois College Saturday. The Blue Knights out shot Illinois 34-6. Illinois scored first in the 20th minute of the game. Urbana scored three unanswered goals. Seth Thacker found the back of the net on an assist from Troy Smith right before the half ended. Chris Horstman scored the game winner on an assist from Chris Collins and Joey Tensing’s goal in the 79th minute put the game away. Tacker had the assist on the final goal. Urbana plays Bluffton College this Wednesday, Sept. 13 at 5 p.m.
Baskin Racks up Seven Points in Blue Knight Win
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Sept. 8, 2006) – Urbana senior Josh Baskin (Engelwood, Ohio/Northmont HS) exploded for seven points in the Blue Knights’ 5-1 victory over previously undefeated Trinity Christian College, Ill. in the Marian College Classic. Baskin put away two goals and assisted on three others, vaulting Urbana to the win and a 5-0 record. Eric Miller (West Chester/Lakota HS) found the back of the net first, but TCC tied it up on a Nick Swift goal. AJ Grove gave Urbana a 2-1 lead at halftime. Miller hit first again to start the second half, and assisted on Baskin’s first goal. Baskin scored his final goal on a penalty kick. Micah Fisher (Arcanum/Franklin-Monroe HS) had five saves in goal for Urbana. The Blue Knights play Illinois College Saturday in day two of the Classic at 4 p.m.
Knights Win Home Opener
URBANA, Ohio (Sept. 6, 2006) – The Urbana University men’s soccer team improves to 4-0 after a 3-1 win over visiting Taylor University Wednesday in the first ever men’s soccer game played on Ellis Field. The Trojans struck first scoring midway through the first half, but Urbana’s barrage of shots overcame Taylor. The Knights scored three unanswered goals and out shot the Trojans 26-5. Matt Spirk struck first for Urbana, volleying an AJ Grove cross to the back of the net, tying it 1-1 in the first half. Josh Baskin scored five minutes into the second half on a cross by Tom Woodruff. Jon Snyder picked up his fifth goal of the year to give Urbana some breathing room. Micah Fisher had just two saves in goal, but they were spectacular. The Blue Knights play in the Marian College tournament this Friday and Saturday. They open the tournament against Trinity Christian Friday at 3:30 p.m.
Fisher Named Defensive Player of the Week
Urbana goalkeeper Micah Fisher (Arcanum, OH) is the American Mideast Conference Defensive Players of the Week.
Fisher, a 6-3 sophomore, played all 270 minutes and posted two shutouts in three victories for Urbana. He made three saves in a 4-1 win versus Saint Francis IN, four saves in a 2-0 victory at Tri-State, and seven saves in a 4-0 victory over Adrian. Urbana's Jon Snyder scored four times in three matches and was considered for the AMC Offensive Player of the Week.
Urbana Brings Home Tri-State Tournament Title

ANGOLA, Ind. (Sept. 1-2, 2006) – The Blue Knight men’s soccer team came away with two victories this weekend at the Tri-State tournament. Urbana defeated the host school, Tri-State University, 2-0 to open the tournament. The Knights looked impressive in a 4-0 win over Adrian College, Mich. In the opener, freshmen Jon Snyder and Joey Tensing scored goals. Snyder broke out for two more goals against Adrian. Seniors Tom Woodruff and Josh Basking also each scored a goal. Jacob Partin and Eric Miller each had an assist. Urbana hosts Taylor University this Wednesday, Sept. 6 at 5 p.m.
Knights Pound St. Francis in Season Opener
FT. WAYNE, Ind. (August 30, 2006) – The Blue Knight men’s soccer team opened the season with a convincing 4-1 victory over St. Francis University, Ind. Wednesday night. Freshman Jon Snyder scored the first goal on an assist from senior Josh Baskin to start off the scoring for 2006. Freshman Matt Spirk scored the first of his two goals on an assist from Jake Partin. Spirk contributed an assist on Urbana’s next score by Baskin. Spirk finished off the scoring for the Blue Knights on an assist from Jared Frasure. The Cougars’ only score came on an own goal. Urbana (1-0) outshot St. Francis (1-2) 23-9. Micah Fisher had three saves in goal for the Blue Knights, who allowed the final goal with just 54 seconds remaining in the game. Urbana plays at the Tri-State Tournament this weekend, playing the host school on Friday at 4 p.m.
The Blue Knight men's soccer team is preparing for the 2006 season. Wednesday night the team scrimmaged on the new field. Coach Jim Wendling has several returners back and a wealth of new talent.
