Blue Knights Fall in Season Opener
Senior Harold Haynes drains 33 points in Urbana debut
SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio (November 10, 2007) – The Blue Knight men’s basketball team lost its 2007-08 season opener Saturday at Notre Dame by a score of, 89-71. The Falcons, the defending American Mideast Conference North Division defending champions, jumped out to a 44-30 halftime lead.
Jo-Jo Peterson hit a jumper at the 14:24 mark to give Urbana (0-1) a 12-7 lead, its largest of the game. The Falcons (1-1) chipped away and regained the lead on a couple of Eric Maag free throws. Mike DeBolt gave the Blue Knights the lead back with a trey with 12:03 left in the half. Notre Dame took the lead back for good on a Jerome Pierce jumper to with 10:53 showing on the clock to give the Falcons an 18-16 lead. Urbana closed within four points late in the half, but NDC went on a 10-0 run to take a commanding lead.
Haynes led all scorers with 33 points, going 10-of-15 from the field, including 3-of-5 from three-point range, and 10-of-10 from the free throw line, to go along with his three steals, three rebounds and blocked shot. Peterson added 11 points and five rebounds. DeBolt was the only other Blue Knight in double figures with 10 points. Allen Drake led the squad in rebounds with seven, while Joe Williams led Urbana with four assists and four steals.
Urbana has its home opener on Tuesday, Nov. 13 at 7:30 p.m. when they host Malone College.
