Blue Knights Can't Repeat Upset
Five Urbana seniors play in their final home game
URBANA, Ohio (February 19, 2008) – NAIA No.2 Walsh came to town on Urbana’s senior night and avenged an earlier upset loss dealt to them by the Blue Knights. The Cavaliers improved their overall record to 23-4 and their American Mideast Conference South Division leading record to 11-2 with a 73-49 win Tuesday at the Grimes Center Gymnasium.

Urbana came out strong and led 4-0 on a pair of Andre’ Wiggins lay ups to start the contest. The Cavs regained the lead for good on a Corey Jones fast break lay up to make the score 7-6 with 17:08 to play in the half. Walsh started to pull away late in the half, finishing on a buzzer beating lay up by Jones to give the Cavaliers a 35-23 advantage.

That momentum carried over to the second half and while Urbana’s scoring drought follow it to the second half as well. The Blue Knights went more than eight minutes without hitting a field goal. Wiggins hit a jumper at the 1:14 mark of the first half and Urbana didn’t score another one from the field until junior Charles Jefferson knocked down a “j” with 12:55 left in the game. By that point, Walsh’s lead ballooned to 27 points.

Wiggins led Urbana with 10 points, while fellow senior Allen Drake pulled in 10 rebounds. Senior Harold Haynes had eight points and six rebounds in his last game on the Blue Knight hardwood, while fellow seniors Julian Bernard had seven points and Joe Williams had four points and three assists. All five seniors started the game.

Jones led Walsh with 21 points, while Eder Araujo added 14 points and nine rebounds.

Urbana plays its final game of the season at Shawnee State this Saturday, Feb. 23 at 1 p.m.
