MVNU Tops Blue Knights, 87-69
Bernard scores career-high 20 vs. Cougars
URBANA, Ohio (February 16, 2008) – Ben Falkenberg (24 points) and Jadin Thomas (23 points) combined to score 47, propelling NAIA No. 31 Mount Vernon Nazarene to an 87-69 win over Urbana University Saturday at the Grimes Center Gymnasium.

The Cougars owned a commanding 44-30 lead at the half, despite Blue Knight senior Allen Drake pouring in 15 points after going 6-of-6 from the field. MVNU clamped down on Drake in the second stanza, only allowing him two free throws.

Urbana out rebounded the Cougars, 34-29 behind Drake’s eight, but MVNU didn’t give many chances to rebound on its offensive end. The Cougars shot 56 percent from the floor, including 50 percent from behind the three-point stripe (13-of-26). The Blue Knights also shot well, taking down 45 percent of their shots.

Senior Julian Bernard led Urbana in scoring with 20 points, 13 of which came in the second half. Junior Charles Jefferson also scored in double figures, notching 12 points to go along with his five assists. Drake added a game-high four steals.

Urbana is home on February 19 and will host NAIA No. 2 Walsh at 7:30 p.m.
